NYC Schools See Spike In Violent Threats: Report

The NYPD has recorded more than 300 threats against schools since September, the New York Post reported.

NEW YORK, NY — New York City's public schools have seen an uptick in violent threats as recent school shootings have ravaged the nation, according to the New York Post. Some 334 threats of violence against schools have been reported to police since September, an increase of 18 percent from the same period in the prior school year, the Post reported Saturday.

That includes threats on three consecutive days last week in the wake of a May 18 school shooting in Santa Fe, Texas that killed 10 people, the story says.

The threats have reportedly been delivered verbally, through social media, over the phone and in letters and emails. Such threats are against the Department of Education's discplinary rules and can result in responses ranging from a parent conference to expulsion, the Post reported.
