NYC Subway Announcements Have A New Voice: Report
New York City Transit picked a Queens native to record new public service announcements, according to the New York Daily News.

NEW YORK, NY — There's now a new voice giving straphangers advice. Queens native Velina Mitchell, a 25-year veteran of New York City Transit, has recorded more than a dozen announcements that are being pumped into the subway system, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.
The MTA picked Mitchell, an announcer at the subway's Rail Control Center, to freshen up public service messages so that they'll still catch commuters' ears, according to the Daily News.
"She sounded like a New Yorker, but she was also warm and she enunciated very well," Sarah Meyer, New York City Transit's chief customer officer, told the paper.

Mitchell can be heard telling riders not to hold train doors or stand close to the edge of the platform, the Daily News reported, but radio anchor Charlie Pellett will still deliver his signature message: "Stand clear of the closing doors, please."
