NEW YORK CITY — The MTA will make the New York City summer subway experience even more enjoyable Sunday when they hike fares to $2.90.
Base fares on subways, buses and trains will increase 15 cents from $2.70, seven-day unlimited passes will increase $1 to $34, 30-day unlimited passes will increase $5 to $132, according to the MTA.
The cost of MetroNorth and Long Island Rail Road tickets will increase 4.5 percent.

Reduced fares will cost a dime more at from $1.45.
The Express Bus base fare will round out to $7 and the 7-Day Unlimited Express Bus Plus pass will cost $2 more at $64.

The fare hikes approved in July — the first since 2015 — could have been much higher, Janno Lieber, the MTA's chair and CEO, said at the time.
"Instead of that catastrophic scenario, thanks to the governor and the state legislature, we're voting on a 4 percent fare increase," he said.
The hike comes as weekday ridership levels hover about 70 percent of pre-pandemic levels.
