NYC Is A Terrible Place To Be Single, Study Finds
See where New York City ranked on a new ranking of 2022's "Best & Worst Cities For Singles."

NEW YORK CITY — Single in Steinway? Good luck with that — a new study found it’s much better to be Sleepless in Seattle than dating anywhere in New York City.
New York City ranked 151st out of 182 cities in WalletHub’s new “2022’s Best & Worst Cities For Singles” study.
The Big Apple’s dating scene is simply too expensive, the study found. The famously pricey city ranked dead last in terms of cost for dates — one of three factors taken into consideration by the study.

“The average date costs over $90 and 19% of people in Gen Z and 22% of millennials report going into debt for dates,” the study states. “Therefore, it certainly pays to live in a place where dating activities, such as dining out or watching a movie, are relatively cheaper.”
So, what U.S. city fared the best for single ladies and gentlemen?

Seattle, Washington, grabbed the top honor, followed by Madison, Wisconsin, and Denver, Colorado, according to the study.
The trio of cities ranked high — in the top three, in fact — when it came to “dating opportunities,” another factor measured by the study.
The factor took into account each city’s share of singles, online and mobile dating opportunities, and Google search traffic for “Tinder,” according to the study’s methodology.
And what the study found could be surprising for New Yorkers who have delved into the seemingly never-ending Hinge or Tinder dating pool: the city’s “dating opportunities” ranked 167th in the U.S.
New York City only fared well on the third and final factor considered by the study: fun and recreation. The city ranked fourth for fun, the study found.
San Francisco, Honolulu and Miami grabbed the top three spots for fun, according to the study.
