More than 20,000 marchers are expected to snake down Fifth Avenue Friday.

NEW YORK CITY — A massive salute to America's military veterans is ready to yet again march down New York City's streets.
The New York City Veterans Day Parade returns Friday at noon, rain or shine.
More than 20,000 marchers, 280-plus units, 150 vehicles and 25 floats are expected to snake down Fifth Avenue, according to the parade's organizers with the United War Veterans Council.

"This year’s Grand Marshal is Vince M. Patton III, the Eighth Master Chief Petty Officer of the Coast Guard, and the first African-American to hold that prestigious position," the event's website states.
The parade is the largest Veterans Day event in the nation, and returns to an in-person format after a brief hiatus in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But there still will be some coronavirus modifications, organizers said.
"The traditional Opening Ceremony will be again modified this year for health and safety reasons," the event's website states. "In lieu of our usual speaker program, a reduced group of Parade and community representatives will participate in a wreath procession to the Eternal Light Memorial."
The parade otherwise will run like it did in past years, following its traditional route with a step off at 26th Street and Fifth Avenue.
It then will move north along Fifth Avenue before reaching its end point at 45th Street and Fifth Avenue. Organizers expect the parade to wrap up about 3:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Spectators can view the parade all along its route, or watch live on TV and online via WABC or Military.com.
