NEW YORK CITY — Thar she blows! New Yorkers can expect strong winds to whoosh through the boroughs Wednesday, forecasters warn.

A wind advisory will be active in Brooklyn and Queens as gusts up to 55 mph are expected from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Other boroughs are outside the advisory, but can still expect strong winds, the forecast states.

"Although there is higher confidence of the strongest gusts occurring the advisory areas, there is still (at) least a low chance of gusts 45 to 55 mph elsewhere, particularly right ahead and behind the passage of the cold front," a National Weather Service presentation states.

Wind isn't the only unpleasant weather New Yorkers must, well, weather Wednesday.

Brief heavy downpours, as well as more persistent showers, are likely as a cold front passes through the region during the afternoon, forecasters said.

The cold front is part of a massive weather system that is bringing thunderstorms to the Southeast, snow to the Midwest and rain to the Northeast, AccuWeather reported.

Temperatures will hit highs of 58 degrees Wednesday, before dropping down to frigid 35-degree lows, the forecast states.
