NYC Weather: Cooldown Coming After Excessive Heat Hits One More Day
How does a high of 78 degrees sound? Get through Tuesday's 100-degree heat index and the weather will feel much cooler, forecasters say.

NEW YORK CITY — A cooldown is finally coming to New York City, but sweaty city dwellers first will have to contend with one more day of excessive heat, forecasters say.
A heat advisory remains in effect Tuesday until 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
The heat index is expected to hit as high as 100 degrees while sunny weather gives way to potential heavy rain, the National Weather Service's forecast states.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms stay in the forecast through Thursday, but sweltering heat will not. A so-called "Bermuda high" pressure system offshore that has ratcheted by heat and humidity over the past few days will finally dissolve, forecasters said.
"Thereafter the weather pattern will break down resulting in gradually lowering temperatures and humidity through Wednesday and into Thursday," a National Weather Service story states.

Highs on Wednesday will hover near 78 degrees — a much cooler-seeming temperature range that forecasters expect to stick around into next week.
Only Thursday is expected to crack 80 degrees, and even then it'll be barely so, according to the forecast.
New Yorkers excited by the cooler temperatures this week likely will have to contend with rain, some of which could be heavy, the forecast states.
