NYC Weather: 'Dangerous Cold' Coming, But Still No Major Snow

As the city's snowless streak beats a 50-year record, Mother Nature also has this up her sleeve: below zero weather.

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers pining for long-lost snow are about to get a frigid reminder that Old Man Winter is still here.

"Dangerous cold" is expected Friday and Saturday, forecasters warn.

The chilly weather likely will be brief, but the expected below zero temperatures and other conditions are dangerous enough to prompt a hazardous weather outlook from the National Weather Service.

"Wind chills values during this time may fall to as low as 10 to 20 below zero for coastal locations, and 30 below in the interior," the outlook states.

The deep freeze comes amid a strange winter for New York City.

The city Monday set a 50-year record for the latest measurable snowfall in Central Park, according to the National Weather Service.

"The record will continue to be broken every day until measurable snow is observed," a public information statement reads.

A slight chance of snow and snow showers is predicted in Tuesday's forecast, but it remains to be seen whether it'll actually fall beyond trace amounts.

As far as the cold snap, high temperatures will hit 43 by Sunday, according to the forecast.
