NYC Weather: Excessive Heat Will Drag Into Next Week
Even after downpours and thunderstorms strike the city Friday and Saturday, expect 100-degree heat indices to linger, forecasters say.

NEW YORK CITY — Drenching downpours, meet excessive heat.
A two-day soaker expected to hit New York City starting Friday evening likely won't wash away the hot temperatures boiling city dwellers this week, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
Some minor relief — as in, heat indices in the lower 90s as opposed to 100 degrees — could come Saturday, a weather report states.

"Higher heat returns Sunday into early next week with max heat indices of 95 to 100 possible," the story states.
A heat advisory remains in effect Friday until 8 p.m., which coincides with when showers and thunderstorms are expected to roll into the city. AccuWeather warned that the "drenching downpours" could along much of the Eastern Seaboard.

"The best chance of widespread downpours and perhaps gusty thunderstorms from Washington, D.C., and Baltimore to Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston on Friday will be roughly from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.," said Joe Lundberg, a senior meteorologist with AccuWeather, according to a report by the service.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms will continue into next week, along with 90-plus degree highs, according to the National Weather Service forecast.
