NYC Weather: First Major Winter Snow Could Hit With Midweek Storm
Up to 2 inches of snow could fall Wednesday and end the city's near-record "snow drought," forecasters warn.

NEW YORK CITY — Whoever in New York City asked for snow this so-far flake-free winter season could be about to get it, forecasters say.
Up to 2 inches of snow could fall Wednesday in the city as a large storm brings a slew of wintry and rainy weather across the U.S., according to the National Weather Service's forecast.
The snow, if it hits, likely won't last long before it transitions into yet more rain for the Big Apple, the forecast states.

New York City has been in the midst of a "snow drought" this winter season, according to an AccuWeather report. The average amount of snow accumulation by Jan. 22 for the city is 10.6 inches, the report states.
But only a trace amount of snowfall has so far hit the city, which typically sees its first measurable flakes around Dec. 1, AccuWeather reported. The city is nearing a record for its latest measurable first snow, the report states.
"The record for consecutive number of days without 0.1 of an inch of snow or greater in the Big Apple is 332, a streak that ended on Dec. 15, 2020," the report states.
"The city's ongoing streak is at 319 days and counting."
And it's possible that streak could continue.
While National Weather Service meteorologists are predicting snow, their AccuWeather counterparts warn that the looming storm could only bring rain to New York City.
"While nothing is set in stone at the moment, the storm track looks favorable for New York City and Philadelphia to continue their snow drought," another AccuWeather report states.
