NEW YORK CITY — Old Man Winter is about to make New York City’s recent record-breaking highs seem like a distant memory, forecasters warn.

An upcoming blast of wintry air prompted the National Weather Service to issue a freeze watch from late Monday through Tuesday morning.

The freeze would be the first this season.

“Temps are expected to drop to around 30,” the National Weather Service’s New York office tweeted.

And that’s not all — a storm lagging behind the cold air could bring the season’s first snowflakes, meteorologists said.

New York City at this point appears less likely to receive snow as areas further inland. The National Weather Service’s forecast calls for a 100 percent chance of precipitation, likely rain, starting Tuesday at 8 p.m. and heading into Wednesday.

But however the precipitation falls, New Yorkers can it expect it to be much colder than they’ve been used to this seasons.

Last week, temperatures hit 75-degree highs and were well above-average. This week, the highs will be unseasonably cold, even for November, according to AccuWeather.

“Through next weekend, forecast highs in New York City are in the 40s, as much as 10 degrees below normal for mid-November,” an AccuWeather report states.
