NYC Weather: Flash Flood Watch Issued As Downpours Approach

Heavy rain and leaf-clogged drains will create a threat of flash flooding, the National Weather Service says.

NEW YORK — It might be a good day to wear boots. The heavy rain set to drench New York City on Friday evening could cause flash floods, the National Weather Service warns.

The five boroughs will be under a flash flood watch from 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday with one to two inches of rain expected to soak the metropolitan area, according to the weather service.

Showers are expected to start Friday afternoon into the early evening before becoming potentially heavy in the evening, the weather service says. The deluge and drains clogged with leaves will create a threat of flash flooding around the metropolitan area, according to the weather service.
