NEW YORK, NY — Winter just won't let go. Up to four inches of snow could hit New York City on Saturday as temperatures fall to unusually chilly levels for spring, the National Weather Service says.
A small snowfall is expected Friday morning in time to make commutes slippery, followed by a chance of rain throughout the day.
But Saturday's flakes will be more sustained. Snow is likely to start early that morning and continue through the evening, leaving as much as four inches of accumulation, the National Weather Service forecast shows.

The temperature will drop throughout the day Saturday as the snow comes down, dipping to 35 degrees by mid-afternoon, the NWS predicts. That's more than 20 degrees below the normal high of 58.
The weekend snowfall will come just days after another springtime storm dropped 5.5 inches of snow on Central Park on Monday. Another four inches on Saturday would tie the record for the snowiest April 7 in history. Four inches also fell that day in 2003, according to NWS figures.

The snowfall could also put the city well on its way toward at least tying the record for the snowiest April ever — 13.5 inches came down in April 1875.
