NYC Weather Forecast: City Basks In Above-Freezing Temperatures

A summery 56-degree high is expected for Friday.

NEW YORK, NY — It might as well be springtime compared to the weekend. Temperatures will rise above freezing in New York City for the first time since December, allowing the five boroughs to bask in a sunny, 40-degree day on Tuesday, the National Weather Service predicts.

The relative warmth follows a weekend of single-digit lows and sub-zero wind chills dragged in by last week's "bomb cyclone" snow storm, which dropped more than a foot of snow on some parts of the city.

It gets better from here — temperatures will dip slightly to 36 degrees on Wednesday but recover to a summery 56 on Friday.

But the city's not quite out of the winter woods yet. The sunshine will wane when rain and fog move in on late Thursday night, setting up an 80 percent chance of rain throughout the day Friday. Temperatures will dip below freezing again on Sunday, when there's an expected high of 32 and a low of 18.

Here's a closer look at what to expect from the rest of the week, courtesy of the National Weather Service.
