NYC Weather Forecast: Cloudy Memorial Day To Follow Wet Weekend

NEW YORK, NY — Rain could overshadow Memorial Day weekend in New York City but should be gone in time for holiday parades and cookouts on Monday, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Showers and a possible thunderstorm could strike on a warm Saturday afternoon continue into early Sunday morning, the forecast shows. Close to half an inch of rain could fall by 8 a.m. Sunday.

A chance of showers will lurk throughout the day Sunday, the forecast says, with another quarter inch of rain possible by the evening. The showers should taper off by Monday's Memorial Day festivities, though clouds are expected to hover overhead.

Saturday will be warm and humid with a high temperature near 86 degrees, the forecast says. Sunday and Monday will be cooler with high temperatures around 70.

Saturday
A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3pm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Increasing clouds, with a high near 86. Southwest wind 7 to 10 mph.

Saturday Night
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. South wind 5 to 8 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday
Showers likely, mainly before noon. Cloudy, with a high near 70. East wind 5 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 60.

Memorial Day (Monday)
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70.

Monday Night
Mostly cloudy, with a low around 63.
