NYC Weather Forecast: Hazardous Outlook Issued As Storm Looms

A thunderstorm could bring heavy rain and strong winds on Tuesday.

NEW YORK, NY — Get your boots and umbrellas ready. A storm approaching New York City will to bring heavy rain, along with possible strong winds and thunder, to the five boroughs on Tuesday, the latest National Weather Service forecast shows.

The weather service issued a hazardous weather outlook warning of "damaging wind gusts and large hail" when the storm rolls through Tuesday afternoon and evening. There's also potential for minor flooding in urban areas, the outlook says.

Nearly an inch of rain is expected to hit Central Park from 2 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, the NWS forecast shows. There's also a chance of thunder from noon to 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The storm will be the roughest day of a cloudy and rainy stretch that's expected to last through the weekend, the NWS forecast shows.

Tuesday will be the warmest of those days, with a high near 84 degrees. Other temperatures will range from the low 60s to upper 70s.

Monday will be cooler and calmer before the storm arrives, with a high near 70 and some patchy fog, the forecast says.

Tuesday
A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 1pm. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. Southwest wind 5 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday Night
A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 7pm and midnight, then a chance of showers after midnight. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds and heavy rain. Cloudy, with a low around 61. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Wednesday
A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a steady temperature around 63. Northeast wind 6 to 8 mph.

Wednesday Night
Cloudy, with a low around 59.

Thursday
Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73.

Thursday Night
A 30 percent chance of showers after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 60.

Friday
A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 65.

Friday Night
A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 59.

Saturday
A 50 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 73.

Saturday Night
A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Sunday
A 30 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77.
