
NEW YORK, NY — A midweek rainstorm is expected to drench New York City throughout Wednesday, making for wet morning and evening commutes. Close to an inch and a half of rain could fall from Tuesday night through early Thursday morning, according to the latest National Weather Service forecast.
"Most rain is expected tonight through early Wednesday afternoon, some of which could be heavy at times," the weather service said in a statement.
Rainfall could start as early as 6 p.m. Tuesday and continue through the evening. The heaviest downpours are expected in the early hours of Wednesday morning — about three quarters of an inch could fall from 2 a.m. to 8 a.m., the NWS forecast shows.

Wednesday will be chillier than normal with a high temperature near 56 degrees, the NWS says. Thunder could accompany the wet weather from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m., the forecast shows.
The showers are expected to ease up Wednesday evening, but light rain could continue into early Thursday morning, the NWS says.

The umbrellas can likely go back in the closet for the rest of the week — the sun will return Thursday with a high near 63, the forecast shows. Similar conditions are expected into the weekend.

Rain or light rain likely before 7pm, then light rain likely, mainly between 7pm and 3am. Areas of fog. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 49. East wind 6 to 11 mph becoming west in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Thursday
A slight chance of showers or light rain before 7am, then a slight chance of showers between 7am and 9am. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, partly sunny, with a high near 63. West wind 9 to 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
