NYC Weather Forecast: Storm Could End Early Summer Heat

Thunder may roll in Friday night, followed by more rain Saturday.

NEW YORK, NY — Weekend thunder and rain could shake New Yorkers out of their summertime dreams. Thunderstorms could arrive Friday evening, followed more possible showers after temperatures cool down Saturday, the National Weather Service says.

There's one day of heat left — a high near 85 degrees is expected for Friday after record-breaking temperatures in the 90s on Thursday. But a thunderstorm could roll in from 6 to 10 p.m., bringing some light showers as a cold front hits the area, the weather service says.

Sunshine will return on Saturday as the mercury hits a high of 72, followed by another chance of rain that could last from Saturday evening through Sunday, the NWS forecast shows. Close to half an inch of rain may fall in that time.
