NYC Weather Forecast: Storm Will Bring End To Sunny Streak

NEW YORK, NY — New York City's streak of sunshine is coming to an end. Showers and a possible thunderstorm will soak the five boroughs on Saturday, keeping temperatures cooler than normal over the weekend, the National Weather Service says.

Friday will mark the last day of a sunny week with clear skies and a high temperature near 69 degrees. But rain will roll in early Saturday morning and continue throughout the day, with thunder possible in the afternoon and evening, the NWS forecast shows. More than half an inch of rain and a high near 62 are expected for Central Park.

"The combination of clouds, showers and onshore winds will result in below normal temperatures," the weather service said in a statement. "The mercury will struggle to rise into the 60s across many locations."

A chance of showers and similarly cool temperatures will linger throughout the day Sunday before sunshine returns early next week, according to the NWS.

Showers likely, then occasional showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2pm. High near 62. East wind 7 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Saturday Night
Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then a chance of showers. Cloudy, with a low around 55. Northeast wind 8 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Sunday
A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 62. Northeast wind around 8 mph.

Sunday Night
A 40 percent chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 54.

Monday
Partly sunny, with a high near 71.

Partly cloudy, with a low around 60.
