NYC Weather: Heavy Rain, An Inch Or More, Headed To City

NEW YORK CITY — Forgetting an umbrella will be a recipe for regret the next two days in New York City, forecasters warn.

More than an inch of rain could fall between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.

The rain likely will begin Tuesday after 1 p.m., and up to a quarter inch could fall during the afternoon, the forecast states.

And even more rain could fall Tuesday evening, which carries a 90 percent chance of precipitation, according to the forecast.

"New precipitation amounts between three quarters and one inch possible," the forecast states.

But, thankfully, the city so far appears to be poised to avoid widespread hazardous weather predicted for parts of New Jersey and nearby states.

New Yorkers still can expect wet weather, however. Rain likely will continue into Wednesday, mainly before 1 p.m., according to the forecast.

Thursday's forecast is decidedly drier, but rain could return Friday evening, meteorologists warn.
