NEW YORK CITY — April isn't really the cruelest month, at least so long as near 90-degree highs stick around New York City.

High temperatures Thursday will reach the mid and upper 80s across the city, near record levels, according to the National Weather Service.

Central Park's anticipated high of 87 degrees is just one degree shy of the record set in 1977, the service's New York office tweeted.

"The heat continues into late week," another tweet states. "Fortunately, the humidity remains low enough to not exacerbate conditions."

New Yorkers who gallivanted outside Wednesday likely will be happy to know the touch of summer in spring is expected to continue into Friday.

Wednesday was the warmest day since mid-September, forecasters said.

The summery weather is thanks to a large area of high pressure centered smack over a wide swath of the U.S., according to an AccuWeather report.

"Afternoon temperatures Thursday and Friday will climb into at least the mid-80s in Philadelphia, as well as New York City, where the temperature already rose to 84 degrees in Central Park Wednesday," the report states. "The day was the warmest in the Big Apple since Sept. 19, 2022, when the mercury reached 85 degrees."

Highs will vary slightly across the city Thursday, with the mercury expected to reach at least 84 degrees most places, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.

Unfortunately for beach bums and parkgoers, the summery high times won't stick around for the weekend. Saturday is only expected to have a more-seasonable 64-degree high, with some potential April showers to boot, the forecast states.
