NYC Weather: 'Major Storm' Blows Strong Winds, Heavy Rain Toward City
Up to 60 mph wind gusts and nearly an inch of rain could hit the city Wednesday, forecasters warn.

NEW YORK CITY — An ill wind is blowing toward New York City this week in the form of a mammoth storm system, forecasters warn.
Wind gusts up to 60 mph could hit the city Wednesday, along with nearly an inch of rain, according to AccuWeather and National Weather Service meteorologists.
A "major storm" brewing over the southern U.S. Tuesday will eventually blast through the Northeast, causing potential power outages and travel problems, AccuWeather reported.

"More than 125 million people from the Midwest to the Northeast could face disruptive wind gusts from the powerful storm system," the AccuWeather report states.

The most powerful gusts likely will knock the wind out of New York City's sails Wednesday afternoon and evening, according to AccuWeather.

The National Weather Service's forecast is more conservative, but it still calls for breezy conditions throughout Wednesday, with 33 mph wind gusts.
About a half inch of rain could fall during the day Wednesday, along with an additional quarter inch in the evening, the National Weather Service forecast states.
