NEW YORK CITY — Relief from weeks of excessive heat looks to stick around New York City, forecasters say.

High temperatures this week will hover in the 70s and low 80s, according to the National Weather Service's forecast.

The weather is noticeably cooler than the temperatures as August dawned that were 4 to 5 degrees above normal, and they're a continuation of "fall-like" weekend weather caused by an airmass that moved south from Canada, AccuWeather reported.

And good news for New Yorkers who appreciate both good hair days and pleasant temperature: the muggy humidity that drove heat indices upward this summer isn't in the forecast, according to AccuWeather.

"Even more noticeable than the cooler air is the lack of humidity throughout the weekend," the AccuWeather report states. "Dew points were commonly reaching the upper 60s and lower 70s earlier in the month, but were only in the 50s throughout the weekend, keeping it much more comfortable."

But AccuWeather warns that the whispers of a summer nor'easter could move up the Northeast later this week.

Rain could hit Wednesday, although for now it looks like the nor'easter will largely bypass New York City in favor of Boston and Maine, according to AccuWeather.
