NEW YORK CITY — A powerful nor'easter threatens to bring a potent mix of rain, snow and strong winds to New York City over two days, forecasters warn.

The storm will be just offshore Monday before rapidly strengthening and hitting the coast during the evening, AccuWeather reported.

Up to 2 inches of rain will fall between 10 p.m. Monday and 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow could also fall Tuesday, and could vary from a half inch to up to 3 inches, depending on the storm's conditions, forecasters said.

"Temperatures in New York City on Tuesday can climb to a high of 42 degrees Fahrenheit, but that daily maximum will likely not occur in the afternoon as it typically does," the AccuWeather report states. "The daytime high in the city could be recorded during the early morning hours and crash throughout the day as rain mixes with snow."
