NYC Weather: Powerful Winds Usher In Chilly Weekend

Wind gusts as strong as 45 MPH could hit the city on Friday as what's left of Hurricane Michael passes south of the area.

NEW YORK — Powerful gusts of wind will kick off a chilly weekend in New York City as what's left of Hurricane Michael passes south of the area, the National Weather Service says.

The rain that soaked the city Thursday will cease Friday morning with Michael, now a post-tropical storm, moving away from its spot south of Long Island, the weather service says.

But rough wind gusts as strong as 45 MPH could blow through the city before sunshine emerges in the afternoon, according to the weather service. The city will be under a wind advisory until noon Friday.

Sunshine will come after a chance of rain on Saturday morning, but clouds are expected for Sunday, according to the weather service.
