NYC Weather: 'Record Setting' Heat Coming Ahead Of Fall Temps

The city will feel hotter than 90 degrees on Wednesday before temperatures take a nosedive, forecasters say.

NEW YORK — October is coming in hot. Record-high temperatures could bake much of the New York City region this week before cooler fall weather sets in, the National Weather Service says.

Central Park will feel hotter than 90 degrees on Wednesday as the mercury rises to a high near 89 thanks to a patch of warm air that's expected to arrive Tuesday, according to the weather service.

"Wednesday will likely see record setting temperatures across most of the region as temperatures rise well above normal," the weather service says. "... Humidity levels will also increase Wednesday, feeling more summer-like."

Wednesday's current projected high temperature for Central Park is just shy of the all-time Oct. 2 record of 90 degrees, which was set in 1927.

Temperatures will take a nosedive at the end of the week with highs near 67 expected Thursday and Friday, the weather service says. A chance of rain will loom starting Wednesday afternoon throughout Thursday — more than half an inch of rain could soak Central Park by early Friday morning, the forecast shows.
