NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes April 27-28

Heads up: The 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, and R ​trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, April 26, through early Monday morning, April 29— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • From 11:15 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, trains will not run between 137 St and Van Cortlandt Park-242 St due to track panel replacement and drain cleaning. Take shuttle buses, M3, M100, and A/C trains instead. 1 trains will run between South Ferry and 137 St. Buses will run along four routes. Use the A to nearby subway stations via transfer at 59 St 1/A, 168 St A, or Inwood-207 St A. As a reminder, the 168 St 1 station is closed in both directions due to elevator replacement work.
  • At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the A/C at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 bus to/from 157 St 1. During late nights the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St.

2 train:

  • Overnights from 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Apr. 26 to Apr. 29, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Eastern Pkwy, Grand Army Plaza, and Bergen St due to station maintenance. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or New Lots Av-bound 4 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr or Franklin Av.

2/5 trains:

  • At all times until July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. During this closure, for service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip. The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request. Or, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train. For service from Winthrop St, use the nearby Church Av station or the B44/B44 SBS bus. Or, take the Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 train.

4 train:

  • Overnights from 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Apr. 26 to Apr. 29, Manhattan-bound trains will skip Kingston Av, Nostrand Av, Eastern Pkwy, Grand Army Plaza, and Bergen St due to station maintenance. As an alternative, use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 or New Lots Av-bound 4 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr, Franklin Av, or Crown Hts-Utica Av. As a reminder, 3 trains do not run in Brooklyn overnight.
  • From 3:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 27, uptown trains will skip 183 St, Fordham Rd, Kingsbridge Rd, and Bedford Pk Blvd due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a downtown train to complete your trip. Transfer at Mosholu Pkwy or Burnside Av.
  • From 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 27, trains will run every 16 minutes between Burnside Av and Woodlawn. The last stop for some uptown trains will be Burnside Av; these trains will skip 170 St, Mt Eden Av, and 176 St. Transfer at Burnside Av or 167 St to continue your trip.

5 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, uptown trains will skip Morris Park, Pelham Pkwy, and Baychester Av due to station rehabilitation work. As an alternative, use a downtown 5 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Eastchester-Dyre Av or E 180 St. As a reminder, overnight 5 service runs between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St only.
  • At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. In order to accomplish the repair and reconstruction of the platforms within a safe environment, the northbound side of this station will be closed for approximately six months. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5.

6 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Hunts Point Av to 3 Av-138 St due to station maintenance. As an alternative, use a Pelham Bay Park-bound 6 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 3 Av-138 St or Hunters Point Av.

A/C trains:

  • From 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 27 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 28, free shuttle buses will replace A trains between Euclid Av and Lefferts Blvd/Howard Beach-JFK Airport due to track maintenance. A trains will run between Inwood-207 St and Euclid Av, and between Howard Beach-JFK Airport and Far Rockaway. Shuttle buses will run along two routes: NONSTOP between Euclid Av and Howard Beach-JFK Airport, and LOCAL, making stops at Euclid Av, Grant Av, 80 St, 88 St, Rockaway Blvd, 104 St, 111 St, Lefferts Blvd, Aqueduct Racetrack, Aqueduct-North Conduit Av, and Howard Beach. Transfer at Euclid Av or Howard Beach-JFK.

B train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26, B service will end early due to structural improvements. Take C/D and/or Q. As a reminder, service does not run on weekends.

D train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will skip 182-183 Sts, 174-175 Sts, and 170 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Norwood-205 St bound D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 167 St, Tremont Av, or Fordham Rd.

D/N trains:

  • Overnights from 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday to Monday, Apr. 26 to Apr. 29, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

E/F trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to signal modernization.

F/G trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F and Church Av-bound G trains will skip 4 Av-9 St, 15 St-Prospect Park, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy due to electrical improvements. As an alternative, use a 179 St-bound F or Court Sq-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Church Av, 7 Av, or Smith-9 Sts.

G train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, Church Av-bound trains skip Bedford-Nostrand Avs due to station maintenance. As an alternative, use a Court Sq-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Classon Av or Myrtle-Willoughby Avs.
  • At all times until May 6, Court Sq-bound trains will skip Flushing Av due to station improvements. As a reminder, G service is suspended this weekend due to track replacement work near Greenpoint Av and Nassau Av. Free shuttle buses will make all G line station stops between Court Sq and Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts, and connect with the F at Jay St-MetroTech.

J train:

  • At all times until summer 2019, trains skip 111 St in both directions due station rehabilitation work. As an alternative, use nearby stations at 104 St or 121 St to complete your trip. Take the Q56 bus to/from the 104 St and 121 St J/Z stations; free transfer with MetroCard. Additional free transfers with MetroCard will be available between Q37, Q56 and the subway at 104 St, 121 St, or Woodhaven Blvd stations. L train:

  • Effective 10 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 through summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan in both directions on weekends and weeknights. Within Brooklyn, L trains run every 10 minutes in both directions on weekends from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Click here for more information.
  • To avoid crowds and have faster journeys on weekends and weekday evenings, NYC Transit is encouraging customers to take advantage of extensive and robust options in its alternative service plan. These options include:
    • Enhanced subway service on 7/G and M lines on weeknights and weekends, including extended M service.
    • Enhanced bus service on 14th Street, including additional weeknight and weekend M14A bus service that will be extended to connect with the Delancey/Essex St station for links to F/J, and M train service. NYC Transit will launch Select Bus Service on 14th Street this summer to provide faster bus service for Manhattan crosstown customers.
    • A new weeknight and weekend bus service, called Williamsburg Link, will operate on two routes as the B92 and the B91. They connect with subway stations at Bedford Av, Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St, Marcy Av and Hewes St. The Williamsburg Link buses began service on Thursday night, April 25.
    • Free subway transfers to make connections easier between Livonia St L and Junius St 3, and from Broadway G to Hewes St L/M or Lorimer St L/M.
    • A dedicated website on the L project, with trip planning tools, information on the project and travel guides for stations from 8 Av to Lorimer St.
    • A weekly email newsletter on the L projectto keep customers and affected communities informed about the progress of the work and a way to reach Transit staff with feedback or questions.

M train:

  • From 10 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 27, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 27 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, special M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project will run between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will operate from Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.

N train:

  • From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 29, free shuttle buses and the R will replace trains between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St due to electrical improvements. N trains will run via the D line in both directions between 36 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. N trains will run between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and 36 St, and via the D line to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For 45 St, 53 St, and 59 St, take the R via transfer at 36 St. Buses will make all N line station stops between 59 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For stations between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 59 St, transfer to/from buses at Coney-Island Stillwell Av N, New Utrecht Av N, or 59 St R.
  • At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. For more details about this critical structural repair project, refer to this prior press release.
  • At all times until spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 StA.
  • At all times until July 2019, trains run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work. N trains stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
  • Overnights from 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday, Apr. 19 to Monday, Apr. 22, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance and tie block renewal work between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Union St. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

Q train:

  • From 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday, Apr. 27 and Sunday, Apr. 28, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q train to complete your trip. Transfer at Prospect Park, Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, or Kings Hwy.

R train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr.29, Bay Ridge-bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound N or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av Barclays Ctr.
