NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes April 6-7

Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, M, N, Q, R​ and W trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, April 5, through early Monday morning, April 8 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the A/C at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 bus to/from 157 St 1. During late nights the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St.

2/5 trains:

  • At all times until July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. During this closure, for service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip. The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request. Or, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train. For service from Winthrop St, use the nearby Church Av station or the B44/B44 SBS bus. Or, take the Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 train.

2/3 trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 6 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, trains will run local in both directions between 14 St and 96 St due to track replacement near Times Square-42 St. As a reminder, 3 service will be suspended overnight.

3 train:

  • From 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday, Apr. 6, Apr. 7 and Apr. 8, 2 trains and free shuttle buses will replace 3 trains between Times Sq-42 St and Harlem-148 St due to track replacement near Times Sq-42 St. 3 service will be suspended overnight. As an alternative, use the 2 between Times Sq-42 St and 135 St, and use free shuttle buses to/from 148 St, via transfer with the 2 at 135 St.

4 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 7, Woodlawn-bound trains will skip 183 St, Fordham Rd, Kingsbridge Rd, and Bedford Pk Blvd due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a downtown 4 to complete your trip. Transfer at Mosholu Pkwy or Burnside Av.
  • From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Apr. 6, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 7, trains will run every 16 minutes between Burnside and Woodlawn due to track replacement. The last stop for some uptown trains will be Burnside Av; these trains will skip 170 St, Mt Eden Av, and 176 St. Transfer at Burnside Av or 167 St to continue your trip.

5 train:

  • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Morris Park, Pelham Pkwy, and Baychester Av due to station rehabilitation at Gun Hill Rd. As an alternative use a downtown 5 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Eastchester-Dyre Av or E 180 St. As a reminder, the Eastchester-Dyre Av bound platform at Gun Hill Rd is temporarily closed for renovations until September 2019. Overnight service will run between Eastchester-Dyre Av and E 180 St only.
  • At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. In order to accomplish the repair and reconstruction of the platforms within a safe environment, the northbound side of this station will be closed for approximately six months. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5.

A/C trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, uptown trains run express from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to electrical improvements including signal cable installation and testing. As an alternative, use a downtown A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle, 42 St/Port Authority, 34 St-Penn Station, 14 St, W 4 St, or Canal St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.

B train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5, service will end early due to track maintenance near 14 St. As an alternative, take C/D and/or Q trains instead. As a reminder, service does not run on weekends.

D train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance involving tie block renewal between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Union St. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound D/N local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
  • From 10:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St, due to elevator installation work at 62 St. D trains will be rerouted via the N line in both directions. Free shuttle buses will make all D line station stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. Transfer between D trains and shuttle buses at 36 St, 62St-New Utrecht Av (Manhattan-bound D/N only), or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

E train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, trains will run via the F in both directions between 36 St and 2 Av, the last stop, due to ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization work. Use nearby stations on Av, 7/A/C/D/R, and/or Lexington Av 4 local or 6 to complete your trip.

E/F trains:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 6 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization work.

F train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, downtown trains skip 23 St and 14 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use an uptown E or F train to complete your trip. Transfer at W 4 St or 34 St-Herald Sq.

G train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq due to track maintenance near Greenpoint Av and Nassau Av, and elevator work at Greenpoint Av. G trains will run between Church Av and Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Free shuttle buses will make all G line station stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq, and connect with the E/F at 21 St-Queensbridge. Transfer between G trains and buses at Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
  • Beginning 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8 until May 6, Court Sq-bound trains will skip Flushing Av due to station improvements. As an alternative, use a Church Av-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Broadway or Myrtle-Willoughby Avs.

J train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, April 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 8, free shuttle buses and/or 4/6 trains will replace J trains between Hewes St and Broad St due to track maintenance. J trains will run between Hewes St and Broad St. Shuttle buses will make all station stops at Hewes St, Marcy Av, Essex St, and Broadway-Lafayette/Bleecker St 6. Between Bowery and Chambers St, take the 6 to/from nearby stations via transfer between buses and trains at Bleeker St. For Fulton St and Broad St, take the 4 to/from nearby stations via transfer between 4 and 6 at Chambers St-Brooklyn Bridge. For service to/from Manhattan, use A/C or L via transfer at Broadway Junction.
  • At all times until summer 2019, trains skip 111 St in both directions due station rehabilitation work. As an alternative, use nearby stations at 104 St or 121 St to complete your trip. Take the Q56 bus to/from the 104 St and 121 St J/Z stations; free transfer with MetroCard. Additional free transfers with MetroCard will be available between Q37, Q56 and the subway at 104 St, 121 St, or Woodhaven Blvd stations. M train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, April 5 to Monday, April 8, free buses and E/F/J/R will replace M trains between Myrtle Av and 71 Av due to track maintenance. M service will run between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the J. Free shuttle buses will run between Hewes St and Broadway-Lafayette, stopping at Marcy Av and Delancey-Essex Sts. For service to/from Manhattan, use the L via transfer at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs. For Queens Blvd, take the E/F or R.

N train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Apr. 7, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Astoria-Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to station renewal work at Astoria Blvd. N trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Queensboro Plaza. Free shuttle buses will make all N line station stops between Queensboro Plaza and Ditmars Blvd. Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza.
  • At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. When this project is completed in late 2020, the Astoria Blvd station will have two street-to-mezzanine elevators, two mezzanine-to-platform elevators, a new station mezzanine, repaired or replaced structural columns and foundations, repaired concrete platform surfaces, new street and platform stairs, new platform stair enclosures, and new platform canopies and mezzanine overpass walkway canopies. Lights, signs and gates will also be replaced. The new station structure will be reinforced to support the weight of the new elevators and facilities.     • As an alternative, use nearby stations use nearby stations at 30 Av or Ditmars Blvd. Take N/W to Queensboro Plaza, then 7 to 74 St-Roosevelt Av, or take the EFMR to 74 St-Roosevelt Av. As a reminder, R trains operate days/evenings only, and M/W trains do not run overnight or on the weekend. M60 SBS customers are advised to use the LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS instead. The LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS serves the 74 St-Roosevelt Av station.
  • At all times until spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.
  • At all times until July 2019, trains run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work. N trains stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

N/Q trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, downtown trains skip 49 St due to electrical improvements and new duct bank construction. As an alternative, use an uptown N/Q local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Square-42 St or 57-7 Av.

N/R trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 8, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N and Bay Ridge-bound R trains will run express from Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr to 36 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound N or R to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.

R train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Apr. 6, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Apr 6. and Apr. 7, downtown trains will skip 49 St due to electrical improvements. As an alternative, use an uptown N or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Times Square-42 St or 57-7 Av.

W train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 5, service will end early due to electrical improvements. As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
