NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes For August 11-13

Heads up: The 3, 4, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, R and S trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Aug. 10, through early Monday morning, Aug. 13 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 18(!) train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

3 train:

  • At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 145 St 3 line station opened more than a century ago in 1904. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.

4/6 trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 28 St 6 station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station Broadway. Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.

7 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 11, and Sunday, August 12, Flushing-Main St bound 7 trains run express from 74 St-Broadway to Willets Point due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a Hudson Yards- bound 7 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Willets Point, Junction Blvd, or 74 St-Broadway.

A train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown A trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to signal maintenance. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C, or E to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle A/C, or 125 St A/C.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, uptown A trains skip 135 St and 155 St due to station enhancements. As an alternative, use a downtown A local to complete your trip. Transfer at 168 St, 145 St, or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight, and the 163 St-Amsterdam Avstation is closed for renovations until September 2018.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown A trains stop at 155 St and 135 St due to station enhancements.

A/C trains:

  • At all times until September 2018, A and C trains skip 163rd St.-Amsterdam Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 168th St. A and C, 155th St. A and C, or 157th St. 1 instead. Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the A and C at 168th St. or 155th St. with MetroCard. Need to transfer to another bus? Ask the M3, M100 or M101 driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which is valid on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 168 St or 155 St for a transfer to the bus.

A/S trains:

  • At all times until Monday, September 3, A service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. due to a flood protection project in the Rockaways. During this closure, A service will operate between Inwood-207th St. and Broad Channel, and via the S to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116th St. S shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116th St. and Beach 90th St., and via the A to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. For Far Rockaway/Mott Ave.-bound service take the S via transfer at Beach 90th St.

B train:

  • Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, B service will end early due to station improvements at 145 St. As an alternative, B line customers should take the C/D and/or Q instead. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.

B/C trains:

  • At all times until September 2018, B and C trains will skip Cathedral Parkway-110th St. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, walk to the nearby B and C stations at 116th St. and 103rd St., along Fredrick Douglas Blvd/Central Park West. Or take the 1 at 110th St., along Broadway. Use the M10 bus along Fredrick Douglas Blvd and transfer to the B and C (A overnight) at 116th St. or 103rd St. with MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 116 St or 103 St for a transfer to the bus.
  • At all times until late October 2018, B and C trains will skip 72nd and 86th streets in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project.
    • For service to/from 72 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 59 St-Columbus Circle. Or take the 1/2/3 at, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 59 St with MetroCard.
    • For service to/from 86 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 96 St. Or take the 1/2/3 at 86 St, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 96 St with MetroCard.
    • For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 81 St, 59 St, or 96 St for a transfer to the bus

C train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, C service is suspended in both directions between 145 St and 168 St due to station enhancements at 163 St. C trains will run between 145 St and Euclid Av. Downtown A trains will make station stops at 155 St and 135 St. Transfer at 125 St or 145 St.
  • From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, downtown C trains will run express from 125 St to Canal St due to signal maintenance. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C, or E to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St,W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, 59 St-Columbus Circle A/C, or 125 St A/C.

D train:

  • From 10:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Norwood-205 St bound D trains are rerouted via the N line from Coney Island-Stillwell Av to 36 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 36 St, 62 St-New Utrecht, or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
  • From 10:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Norwood-205 St bound D trains skip 170 St, 174-175 Sts and 182-183 Sts due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D train to complete your trip. Transfer at Fordham Rd, Tremont Av, or 167 St.

E train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, Manhattan-bound E trains skip Briarwood and 75 Av due to signal improvements. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F to complete your trip. Transfer at 71 Av, Union Tpke, or Jamaica-Van Wyck E.
  • From 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, August 10 to August 13, Manhattan-bound E trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza due to signal improvements. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound E local or 71 Av-bound R to complete your trip. Transfer at Queens Plaza, Roosevelt Av or 71 Av.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, downtown E trains skip 23 St and Spring St due to signal maintenance. As an alternative,use an uptown A local, C, or E to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station.

F train:

  • At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av N/Q/R/W, 5 Av/59 St N/R/W, 7 Av B/D/E, 5 Av/53 St E/M or 47-50 Sts B/D/F/M. Local buses are also available along 5 Av, 6 Av and 57 St.

F/G trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, 179 St-bound F and Court Sq-bound G trains will skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F or Church Av-bound G to complete your trip. Transfer at Smith-9 Sts, 7 Av, or Church Av.

F/M trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, F/M trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 23 St F/M station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St F/M stations along 6 Av. Or, use the nearby 23 St R/W station on Broadway. Local buses are also available along 6 Av and 7 Av. J train:

  • At all times until Summer 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J trains skip 121st St. due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the J to Sutphin Blvd. and transfer to a Broad S.t-bound J. As a reminder, Broad St.-bound J trains skip 121st St. from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. on weekdays; take the Z instead. For service from this station, take the J to 111st St. and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, J service is suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation work at 121 St and 104 St. J trains will run between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service, and make all J line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E or Crescent St J. As a reminder, the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations until late Summer 2018.

L train:

  • From 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, August 13, l service is suspended in both directions between 8 Av and Broadway Junction due to critical infrastructure work including signal maintenance and improvements at Bedford Av, and extensive track maintenance between Bedford Av and Rockaway Pkwy.
    • This weekend’s improvement work will help prepare the line for reliable service when the tunnel between Brooklyn and Manhattan is reconstructed in 2019, causing L trains to run in Brooklyn only for 15 months.
    • L trains will run between Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction. M14 and free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 8 Av and Broadway Junction. Free shuttle buses will operate along three routes: between Marcy Av J/M and Lorimer St; between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs; and between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Broadway Junction. Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs M, Broadway Junction A/C/J/L, or Marcy Av J/M. Additional nearby subway and local bus service is also provided to accommodate customers. M trains will provide additional service from 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, and will operate between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the Q line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

M train:

  • Beginning 8:15 p.m. Friday, August 10, M service will end early between 71 Av and Delancey-Essex Sts due to signal improvements.
  • From 6:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, M trains will provide additional service due to structural improvements on the line, and will operate between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the Q line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

N train:

  • At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Ave., 18th Av., 20th Ave., Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86th St. due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.
    • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N.
    • For New Utrecht Ave.-62 St., take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36th St. or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.
    • For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
  • At all times until February 2019, N trains will skip Broadway and 39th Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30th Ave., 36th Ave., or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.
  • At all times until July 2019, N trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, free shuttle buses will replace N trains in both directions between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza due to track replacement. N trains will run between Queensboro Plaza and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Free shuttle buses make all N line station stops between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza. Transfer between trains and buses at Queensboro Plaza.
  • From 6 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains are rerouted via the R line (Lower Manhattan) from Canal St to Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr due to track replacement. Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains will stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St, Jay St-MetroTech, and DeKalb Av.

Q train:

  • From 4 a.m. Saturday, August 11 to 10 p.m. Sunday, August 12, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q trains are rerouted via the R line (Lower Manhattan) from Canal St to DeKalb Av due to track replacement. Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N trains will stop at City Hall, Cortlandt St, Rector St, Whitehall St, Court St, Jay St-MetroTech.

R train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, August 10, and from 5:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, August 11 and Sunday, August 12, Manhattan-bound R trains run express from 71 Av to Queens Plaza due to signal improvements. As an alternative, use a 71 Av-bound R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queens Plaza, Roosevelt Av, or 71 Av.
