NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Dec. 15-16
Heads up: The 1, 4, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, E, F, G, J, M, N, R and S trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Dec. 14, through early Monday morning, Dec. 17— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.
Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 15 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:
- At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown 1.
4/6 trains:

- At all times this month, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Avenue South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St N/R station on Broadway. A train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Dec. 14, to Dec. 17, downtown trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station enhancements at 110 St, 86 St and 72 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, downtown trains stop at 163 St, 155 St, and 135 St due to station enhancements at 145 St.
B train:
- From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, B service will end early due to station enhancements at 110 St, 86 St and 72 St.
C train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 14, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15 and on Sunday, Dec. 16, downtown trains run express from 125 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station enhancements at 110 St, 86 St and 72 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local or Cto complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle or 125 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
D train:
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, free shuttle buses replace D service between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St due to track maintenance. D train will run on the N line between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. Free shuttle buses will make D line station stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. Transfer between D trains and shuttle buses at 36 St, 62 St-New Utrecht Av or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, uptown trains skip 170 St, 161 St-Yankee Stadium, and 155 St due to station enhancements at 167 St and 174-175 Sts. As an alternative, use a downtown D train to complete your trip. Transfer at Tremont Av or 145 St. As a reminder, the 167 St and 174-175 Sts B/D stations are closed for renovations.
B/D trains:
- At all times until December 2018, B and D trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B or D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av or 170 St stations for a transfer to the bus.
- At all times until Jan. 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium 4/B/D. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. E train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, free shuttle buses replace trains between Briarwood and Jamaica Center due to track maintenance. E trains will run between World Trade Center and Briarwood, and via the F to/from Jamaica-179 St. Free shuttle buses will make all E station stops between Union Tpke and Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer. Transfer between trains and buses at Union Tpke or Briarwood. For service between Manhattan and JFK Airport, take the A to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
- From 10:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Dec. 14, to Dec. 17, E trains are rerouted in both directions via the F between 21 St-Queensbridge and Lexington Av-63 St, then via the R between 57 St and Whitehall St, the last stop due to station enhancements. F trains will make all E stations stops between Queens Plaza and 47-50 Sts/Rockefeller Center. As an alternative, use the A/C or F to complete your trip via transfer at Roosevelt Av E/F and/or W 4 St A/C/F. For stations between World Trade Center and 50 St, use the A or C instead. For 7 Av, take the D via transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq.
- From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to CBTC-related electrical improvements between Queens Plaza and 75 Av.
F train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, free shuttle buses replace trains between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av due to track maintenance. F trains will run between 179 St and Church Av. Free shuttle buses will make all line station stops between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Transfer between trains and shuttle buses at Church Av. For service between Manhattan/Downtown Brooklyn and Stillwell Av, take the D/N or Q.
- From 10:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 to 4 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, northbound F trains are rerouted via the E line between 47-50 St and Roosevelt Av due to station enhancements. Use the E/R to complete your trip via transfer at Roosevelt Av or 34 St-Herald Sq. R trains will serve 21 St- Queensbridge, Roosevelt Av, and Lexington Av-63 St days and evenings. E trains will serve these stations overnight and make R line stations stops between 57 St-7 Av and Whitehall St.
- From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, trains will run local in both directions in Queens due to CBTC related electrical improvements between Queens Plaza and 75 Av.
- At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av, 5 Av/59 St, 7 Av, 5 Av/53 St or 47-50 Sts. Local buses are also available along Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue and 57th Street. G train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, free shuttle buses replace trains between Bedford Nostrand Avs and Court Sq due to track maintenance and station improvements at Greenpoint Av, G trains will run between Church Av and Bedford Nostrand Avs. Free shuttle buses will make all G line station stops between Bedford Nostrand Avs and Court Sq. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Bedford Nostrand Avs.
- At all times until December 31, 2018, Church Av-bound trains skip Greenpoint Av due to ongoing station improvements including the installation of three new elevators to make this station fully accessible, as well as infrastructure upgrades.
J train:
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, Broad St-bound trains skip Flushing Av, Lorimer St, and Hewes St due to track maintenance at Myrtle Av. As an alternative, use a Jamaica-bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at Essex St, Marcy Av or Myrtle Av. As a reminder, M trains will not run this weekend.
- At all times until winter 2018-19, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound trains skip 104 St due to station rehabilitation work. Use a Manhattan-bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd.
L train:
- From 6:45 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, and Sunday, Dec. 16, service will operate in two sections due to track maintenance so we can maximize reliability on the L when it runs Brooklyn-only for 15 months. To accommodate this work, trains will run in two sections with reduced frequency: between 8 Av and Broadway Junction every 8 minutes, and between Broadway Junction and Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy every 24 minutes. To continue your trip, transfer at Broadway Junction.
M train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, free shuttle buses and/or J trains replace M trains. Free shuttle buses will operate on two routes: between Essex St and Metropolitan Av, and between Essex St and Hewes St, where J trains are available for service to Jamaica Center. For service between Hewes St and Myrtle Av, take the J.
N train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 to 5 a.m. Monday, Dec. 17, Astoria-bound trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av and due to station enhancements at 39 Av and Broadway. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Astoria Blvd or Queensboro Plaza. As a reminder, trains skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions until February 2019 due to station renovations.
- At all times until Spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on theSea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.
- At all times until July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
- At all times until February 2019, trains will skip Broadway and 39 Avin both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.
- From 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 to 6 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, Astoria-bound N trains are rerouted via the Q line from DeKalb Av to Canal St due to track maintenance. For service to Jay St-MetroTech, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, take the 4 to/from nearby stations. Transfer between trains at 14 St-Union Sq, Canal St (after 1 a.m.) or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
R train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, and from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. on both Saturday, Dec. 15 and Sunday, Dec. 16, Brooklyn-bound trains are rerouted via the F line from 36 St in Queens to 57 St-7 Av due to a signal modernization project to upgrade the Queens Boulevard Line. For Queens Plaza, take the E via transfer at Roosevelt Av or Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority. For Lexington Av/59 St and 5 Av/59 St, take the N via transfer at 57 St-7 Av.
- From 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, Forest Hills-bound R trains are rerouted via the Q line from DeKalb Av to Canal St due to track maintenance. For service to Jay St-MetroTech, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall, take the 4 to/from nearby stations. Transfer between trains at 14 St-Union Sq, Canal St (after 1 a.m.) or Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr.
- From 10:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Monday, Dec. 14, to Dec. 17, N trains replace the R between Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr and Whitehall St due to station enhancements. Trains run express in both directions between 36 St and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Use the D/N for skipped stations. For service to/from DeKalb Av, Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, and Whitehall St, use the N instead.
