NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes July 28-30
Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q, R and S trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — If you need to get around the city this weekend, here's what might make it harder as service changes hit the subway for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."
Around the city, 20 train lines will be running with modified service starting late Friday night, July 27, to Monday morning, July 30, according to the MTA.

1 train:
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 1 service is suspended in both directions between 14 St and South Ferry due to track maintenance. 1 trains will run between Wakefield-241 St and 14 St. 1 trains will run express between 42 St and 14 St. Free shuttle buses will provide alternative service between Chambers St and South Ferry. Transfer between 1/2/3 at 42 St or 14 St, and between 2/3 and free shuttle buses at Chambers St.
2 train:

- From 8:45 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 9 p.m. Sunday, July 29, Wakefield-241 St bound 2 trains skip Bronx Park East, Pelham Pkwy, Allerton Av, and Buhre Av due to track replacement. Use a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound 2 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Gun Hill Rd or E 180 St.
2/3 trains:
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2 trains run local in both directions between 34 St-Penn Station and Chambers St, and 3 trains run local in both directions between 96 St and Chambers St due to track maintenance between Rector St and South Ferry. As a reminder, late night 3 service is not running.
3 train:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 3 service is suspended due to station enhancements at 145 St. As an alternative, take 1/2 trains and/or free shuttle buses operating between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2 trains and buses at 135 St.
- From 5 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, 3 service is suspended in both directions between 96 St and Harlem-148 St due to station enhancements at 145 St. 3 trains will run in both directions between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 line to 137 St, which will be the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between Harlem-148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains and free shuttle buses at 135 St.
- At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 145 St 3 line station opened more than a century ago in 1904. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.
4/6 trains:
- At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 28 St 6 station is one of the oldest in the subway system, since it opened on the day that subway service began in October 1904. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station Broadway. Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, downtown 4/6 trains will run express from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St due to track replacement. Use an uptown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at Grand Central-42 St, 59 St, 86 St or 125 St.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, uptown 4/6 trains will skip 23 St and 33 St due to station enhancements at 28 St. Use a downtown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at Grand Central-42 St or 14 St-Union Sq. As a reminder, the 28 St station is closed for extensive renovations until December 2018.
5 train:
- From 6:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, July 28, and from 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, July 29, 5 trains will run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and Eastchester-Dyre Av due to station enhancements at 28 St. Also, beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, 5 service will end early between Bowling Green and E 180 St. As an alternative, take the 2 and/or 4 instead. 5 trains will run between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av.
7 train:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 34 St- Hudson Yards bound 7 trains will run express from Willets Point to 74 St-Broadway due to due to signal modernization. As an alternative, use a Flushing-Main St bound 7 train to complete your trip. Transfer at 74 St-Broadway, Junction Blvd or Mets-Willets Point.
A/C trains:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, downtown A/C trains will run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to Canal St due to signal improvements. For 23 St and Spring St, take an uptown A or C. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St-Wash Sq, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station. or service to 50 St, transfer to an uptown A local, or C train at 42 St-Port Authority. From 50 St, take the F. As a reminder, F trains run via the E line to 42 St-Port Authority, and then via the A line to Jay St-MetroTech in Brooklyn.
- At all times until September 2018, A and C trains skip 163rd St.-Amsterdam Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 168th St. A and C, 155th St. A and C, or 157th St. 1 instead. Use M3, M100 or M101 buses and transfer to the A and C at 168th St. or 155th St. with MetroCard. Need to transfer to another bus? Ask the M3, M100 or M101 driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which is valid on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 168 St or 155 St for a transfer to the bus.
A/S trains:
- At all times until Monday, September 3, A service will be suspended in both directions between Broad Channel and Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. due to a flood protection project in the Rockaways. During this closure, A service will operate between Inwood-207th St. and Broad Channel, and via the S to/from Rockaway Park-Beach 116th St. S shuttle trains will run between Rockaway Park-Beach 116th St. and Beach 90th St., and via the A to/from Far Rockaway-Mott Ave. For Far Rockaway/Mott Ave.-bound service take the S via transfer at Beach 90th St.
B/C trains:
- At all times until September 2018, B and C trains will skip Cathedral Parkway-110th St. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, walk to the nearby B and C stations at 116th St. and 103rd St., along Fredrick Douglas Blvd/Central Park West. Or take the 1 at 110th St., along Broadway. Use the M10 bus along Fredrick Douglas Blvd and transfer to the B and C (A overnight) at 116th St. or 103rd St. with MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer, which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 116 St or 103 St for a transfer to the bus.
- At all times until late October 2018, B and C trains will skip 72nd and 86th streets in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project.
- For service to/from 72 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 59 St-Columbus Circle. Or take the 1/2/3 at, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 59 St with MetroCard.
- For service to/from 86 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 96 St. Or take the 1/2/3 at 86 St, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 96 St with MetroCard.
- For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the M10 bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at 81 St, 59 St, or 96 St for a transfer to the bus
B/M trains:
- Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, July 27, due to structural and signal improvements, B/M service will end early. As an alternative, B line customers should take the C/D and/or Q instead. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends. M service will end early between 71 Av and Delancey-Essex Sts due to signal improvements. As an alternative, take E/F or R trains instead.
E train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, uptown E trains skip Spring St and 23 St due to signal improvements. Use a downtown A local, C or E to complete your trip. Transfer at 34 St-Penn Station, 14 St, or Canal St.
E/F trains:
- From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, E/F trains will run local in Queens due to signal modernization.
F train:
- At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av N/Q/R/W, 5 Av/59 St N/R/W, 7 Av B/D/E, 5 Av/53 St E/M or 47-50 Sts B/D/F/M. Local buses are also available along 5 Av, 6 Av and 57 St.
- At all times until mid-2018, Manhattan-bound F trains skip Avenue U, Avenue P, Avenue N, Bay Parkway and Avenue I due to station renewal work on the Culver Line.
- For service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound F train to Kings Highway or 18th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.-bound F.
- For service from these stations, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound F train to Kings Highway or Avenue X and transfer to a Manhattan-bound F. INDENTFor service to these stations, take a Manhattan-bound F train to Kings Highway or 18th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.-bound F.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, uptown F trains will skip 14 St due to signal improvements. Use a downtown F train to complete your trip. Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq or W 4 St-Wash Sq. As a reminder, the 23 St F station is closed for renovations until December 2018.
F/G trains
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, 179 St-bound F and Court Sq-bound G trains will skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, 15 St-Prospect Park and 4 Av-9 St due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F or Church Av-bound G to complete your trip. Transfer at Smith-9 Sts, 7 Av, or Church Av.
F/M trains:
- At all times until December 2018, F/M trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA’s Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 23 St F/M station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St F/M stations along 6 Av. Or, use the nearby 23 St R/W station on Broadway. Local buses are also available along 6 Av and 7 Av. J train:
- At all times until Summer 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J trains skip 121st St. due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the J to Sutphin Blvd. and transfer to a Broad S.t-bound J. As a reminder, Broad St.-bound J trains skip 121st St. from 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. on weekdays; take the Z instead. For service from this station, take the J to 111st St. and transfer to a Jamaica Center-bound J.
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 29, J service is suspended in both directions between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation work at 121 St and 104 St. J trains will run between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service, and make all J line station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E or Crescent St J. As a reminder, the Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound J platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations until late Summer 2018.
J/M trains:
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 10 p.m. Sunday, July 29, Crescent St-bound J and Metropolitan Av-bound M trains skip Hewes St, Lorimer St and Flushing Av due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound J or M train to complete your trip. Transfer at Myrtle Av, Marcy Av, or Delancey-Essex Sts. As a reminder, late night M service will operate between Myrtle Av and Metropolitan Av.
L train:
- From 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, L service is suspended in both directions between Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction due to track replacement. L trains will run between 8 Av and Broadway Junction. As an alternative, free shuttle buses will make all L line station stops between Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction. To continue your trip, transfer at Broadway Junction.
N train:
- At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Ave., 18th Av., 20th Ave., Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86th St. due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.
- For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N.
- For New Utrecht Ave.-62 St., take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36th St. or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.
- For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N.
- At all times until February 2019, N trains will skip Broadway and 39th Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30th Ave., 36th Ave., or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, N trains are rerouted via the D line in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St due to structural improvements. Free shuttle buses will make all N line station stops to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av and New Utrecht Av, use the D. For stations between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and New Utrecht Av, transfer to/from free shuttle buses at the Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound D and/or New Utrecht Av. For Fort Hamilton Pkwy and 8 Av, transfer to/from free shuttle buses at New Utrecht Av or 59 St. For 59 St, take the R or free shuttle buses. For 53 St, transfer between N and R trains at 36 St or between free shuttle buses and R trains at 59 St.
- From 11 p.m. Friday, July 27 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, N service is suspended in both directions between Times Sq and Ditmars Blvd due to track replacement. N trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Times Sq. Free shuttle buses will provide alternative service between Queensboro Plaza and Ditmars Blvd. For service between Queens and Manhattan, take the 7 via transfer at Times Sq-42 St and/or Queensboro Plaza. To/from 49 St and 57 St-7 Av, use the Q or R. To/from 5 Av/59 St and Lexington Av/59 St, use the nearby 59 St 4/5/6 station via transfer with the 7 at Grand Central-42 St or N at 14 St-Union Sq.
Q train:
- From 5:45 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 29, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q trains skip Avenue U and Neck Rd due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound Q train to complete your trip. Transfer at Sheepshead Bay or Kings Hwy.
- From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, July 28 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 30, Q trains run local in both directions between Canal St and 57 St-7 Av due to track replacement.
R train:
- From 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 28 and Sunday, July 29, R trains are rerouted via the F line in both directions between 57 St-7Av and 36 St in Queens due to track replacement. For 5 Av/59 St and Lexington Av/59 St 4/5/6, use the nearby 59 St station via transfer at Lexington Av/53 St E or 14 St Union Sq R. For Queens Plaza, take the E. Transfer at Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority E/R or Roosevelt Av E/R.
