NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes June 8-9
Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, D, E, F, G, J, L, M, N, Q and R trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, June 7, through early Monday morning, June 10 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service."
Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 19 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:
- At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the AC at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between the 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 to/from 157 St 1. Late nights, the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St. This work is part of a major elevator replacement project at five separate "deep" stations in the Washington Heights section of Manhattan. - From 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 9, downtown trains will run express from 34 St-Penn Station to Chambers St due to track maintenance and tie block renewal at 18 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 1 or 2 local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Chambers St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station.
2 train:

- From 11:45 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday to Sunday, June 7 to June 9, downtown trains will run express from 34 St-Penn Station to Chambers St due to track maintenance and tie block renewal at 18 St. As an alternative, use an uptown 1 or 2 local train to complete your trip. Transfer at Chambers St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station.
2/5 trains:
- At all times until June 28, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip President St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. For service to President St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or5 train. For service from President St, use a B44 local or B44 SBS bus. Or, take a Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Franklin Av and transfer to a Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College-bound 2 or 5 train.
- At all times until June 28, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. For service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip. The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request. Or, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train. For service from Winthrop St, use the nearby Church Av station or a B44 local/B44 SBS bus. Or, take a Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 train.
3/4 trains:
- From 3:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 9, free shuttle buses will replace trains between New Lots Av and Crown Hts-Utica Av due to track panel removal and installation between Rockaway Av and Saratoga Av. 3 trains will run between Harlem-148 St and Crown Hts-Utica Av. 4 trains will run between Woodlawn and Crown Hts-Utica Av. Free shuttle buses will make all 3 line station stops between New Lots Av and Crown Hts-Utica Av. Transfer between 3/4 trains and shuttle buses at Crown Hts-Utica Av.
4 train:
- Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, June 7, downtown trains will run local from 125 St to Grand Central-42 St due to station maintenance and deep cleaning at 59 St-Columbus Circle and 86 St.
5 train:
- Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, June 7, service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green due to track maintenance near Spring St. Take the 2 and/or 4 instead. As a reminder 5 service does not run in Manhattan overnight.
- At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av-bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5
6 train:
- From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 8, the 116 St station will be designated as EXIT ONLY due to the 116th Street Festival. To prevent overcrowding on platforms and stairways during the festival, customers will not be allowed entry to the 116 St station. For Lexington Av service, use the nearby 110 St or 125 St stations instead. For more information on MTA service related to this weekend's events in the city, refer to this prior press release.
- From 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 9, the 77 St station will be designated as EXIT ONLY due to the Puerto Rican Day Parade. To prevent overcrowding on platforms and stairways during the parade, customers will not be allowed entry to the 77 St station. For Lexington Avenue service, use the nearby 68 St or 86 St stations instead. Or, use nearby 72 St or 86 St Q stations. 7 train:
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, June 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 34 St-Hudson Yards bound trains will run express from 74 St-Broadway to Queensboro Plaza due to station maintenance and deep cleaning at 33 St-Rawson St, 40 St-Lowery St, and 46 St-Bliss St As an alternative, use a Flushing-bound 7 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza, 61 St-Woodside, or 74 St-Broadway.
A train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Sunday, June 9, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Inwood-207 St and 181 St due to track and switch maintenance near Inwood-207 St. A service will run between 181 St and Far Rockaway/Lefferts Blvd. Shuttle buses will run along two routes: between 181 St and 215 St 1 station, stopping at Dyckman St and 207 St, and between 181 St and 190 St only. Transfer at 181 St to continue your trip.
- From 10 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, uptown trains will run local from Canal St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to track maintenance between Canal St and 59 St-Columbus Circle.
- From 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday to Monday, June 7 to June 10, downtown trains will skip 50 St, 23 St, and Spring St due to station maintenance and deep cleaning on the upper levels at Spring St, 33 St and 50 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C or E train to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, 34 St-Penn Station, 42 St-Port Authority, or 59 St-Columbus Circle A/C. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
- From 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the summer, the Rockaway Park/Beach 116 St S shuttle service will be extended to Rockaway Blvd to facilitate beach traffic to the peninsula. Customers can take any train to connect with the shuttle at Rockaway Blvd. This seasonal service will also be available on Memorial Day, July Fourth and Labor Day. B train:
- Beginning 8:30 p.m., Friday, June 7, service will end early due to track maintenance near 167 St. As an alternative, take C/D and/or Q trains instead. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.
D train:
- From 10:30 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, free shuttle buses will replace D trains between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St due to accessibility improvements including the installation of elevator glass and platform canopies at 62 St. D trains will be rerouted via the N line in both directions between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. Free shuttle buses will make all D line station stops between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 36 St. Transfer between D trains and shuttle buses at 36 St, 62 St-New Utrecht Av (Manhattan-bound D/N only), or Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
E train:
- From 9:45 p.m. to 5 a.m., Friday to Monday, June 7 to June 10, downtown trains will skip 23 St and Spring St due to station maintenance and deep cleaning at Spring St and 23 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local, C or E train to complete your trip. Transfer at Canal St, W 4 St, 14 St, or 34 St-Penn Station.
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Briarwood and Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer due to track replacement near Jamaica Van-Wyck. E trains will run between World Trade Center and Briarwood, then via the F to/from Jamaica-179 St. Free shuttle buses will make all E line station stops between Kew Gardens-Union Tpke and Jamaica Center. Transfer between shuttle buses and trains at Kew Gardens-Union Tpke or Briarwood. For service between Manhattan and JFK Airport, take the A to/from Howard Beach-JFK Airport.
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, Jamaica-bound trains will run express from Queens Plaza to 71 Av due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at Forest Hills-71 Av, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza. As a reminder, R service does not run in Queens overnight.
F train:
- From 6:45 a.m. Saturday, June 8 to 7 p.m. Sunday, June 9, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will skip Ditmas Av, Avenue I, Bay Pkwy, Avenue N, Avenue P, and Avenue U due to signal improvements between Avenue U and Avenue P. As an alternative, use a Jamaica-bound F train to complete your trip. Transfer at Avenue X, Kings Hwy, 18 Av, or Church Av.
F/G trains:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F and Church Av-bound G trains will skip 4 Av-9 St, 15 St-Prospect Park, and Fort Hamilton Pkwy due to track maintenance near Fort Hamilton Pkwy. As an alternative, use a Jamaica bound F or Court Sq-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Church Av, 7 Av, or Smith-9 Sts.
G train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 5 a.m. Monday, June 10, Church Av-bound trains will skip Bedford-Nostrand Avs due to station maintenance including platform repairs. As an alternative, use a Court Sq-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Classon Av or Myrtle-Wiloughby Avs.
J train:
- At all times until summer 2019, trains skip 111 St in both directions due station rehabilitation work. As an alternative, use nearby stations at 104 St or 121 St to complete your trip. Take the Q56 bus to/from 104 St and 121 St J stations; free transfer with MetroCard. Additional free transfers with MetroCard will be available between Q37, Q56 and the subway at 104 St, 121 St, or Woodhaven Blvd stations. L train:
- Effective 10 p.m. Friday, Apr. 26 through summer 2020, L trains will run every 20 minutes between Brooklyn and Manhattan in both directions on weekends and weeknights. Within Brooklyn, L trains run every 10 minutes in both directions on weekends from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. Click here for more information.
- To avoid crowds and have faster journeys on weekends and weekday evenings, NYC Transit is encouraging customers to take advantage of extensive and robust options in its alternative service plan. These options include:
- Enhanced subway service on 7/G and M lines on weeknights and weekends, including extended M service.
- Enhanced bus service on 14th Street, including additional weeknight and weekend M14A bus service that will be extended to connect with the Delancey/Essex St station for links to F/J, and M train service. NYC Transit will launch Select Bus Service on 14th Street this summer to provide faster bus service for Manhattan crosstown customers.
- A new weeknight and weekend bus service, called Williamsburg Link, will operate on two routes as the B92 and the B91. They connect with subway stations at Bedford Av, Metropolitan Av-Lorimer St, Marcy Av and Hewes St. The Williamsburg Link buses began service on Thursday night, April 25.
- Free subway transfers to make connections easier between Livonia St L and Junius St 3, and from Broadway G to Hewes St L/M or Lorimer St L/M.
M train:
- From 10 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 1:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, and from 6 a.m. Saturday, June 8 to 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 10, special M service to help accommodate customers during the L Project runs between Brooklyn and up to 96 St in Manhattan. M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the F to/from Lexington Av/63 St, and via the Q to/from 96 St.
- Beginning 10 p.m. Friday, June 7, service will end early between Forest Hills-71 Av and 47-50 Sts-Rockefeller Ctr due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. For Queens, take the R. For Court Sq-23 St, Lexington Av-53 St, and 5 Av/53 St, take the E.Transfer at 34 St-Herald Sq M/R or W 4 St E/M.
N train:
- From 3:45 Saturday, June 8 to 10 p.m. Sunday, June 9, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains will run express from Ditmars Blvd to Queensboro Plaza due to station renewal work at Astoria Blvd and Astoria-Ditmars Blvd. As an alternative, use an Astoria-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza or Ditmars Blvd. As a reminder, the Astoria Blvd station is closed for renewal work until December 2019.
- At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. For more details about this critical structural repair project, refer to this prior press release.
- At all times until summer 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for customers, including the installation of elevators at 8 Av and New Utrecht Av stations, providing mobility impaired customers with better accessibility, upgraded communication systems, installation of Help Point intercoms, new stairways and handrails, reconstructed platforms and overpasses, repairs to canopies and columns, and artwork. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the instead. Transfer between trains at 36 St.
- At all times until summer 2019, trains run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work. N trains stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
Q train:
- From 5:45 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and June 9, Manhattan-bound trains will run express from Kings Hwy to Prospect Park due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound Q train to complete your trip. Transfer at Prospect Park, Church Av, Newkirk Plaza, or Kings Hwy.
R train:
- From 10:45 p.m. Friday, June 7 to 12:30 a.m. Saturday, June 8, and from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June 8 and June 9, Forest Hills-71 Av-bound trains will run express from Queens Plaza to Forest Hills-71 Av due to ongoing signal modernization work along the Queens Boulevard corridor. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E local or R to complete your trip. Transfer at Forest Hills-71 Av, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza.
