NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes March 30-31

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, March 29, through early Monday morning, April 1 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as 17 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

• At all times until early 2020, trains skip 168 St in both directions due to elevator replacement work. For alternate service take the A/C at/to this station. Transfer between 1 and A trains at 59 St-Columbus Circle. A free out-of-system transfer with a MetroCard is available between 207 St or 215 St 1 and 207 St A. Take the M5 bus to/from 157 St 1. During late nights the M5 will run between 168 St and 157 St.

2/5 trains:

• At all times until July 2019, Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College bound trains will skip Winthrop St due to staircase and platform edge rehabilitation work. During this closure, for service to Winthrop St, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a B44 local or B44 SBS bus to complete your trip. The station agent will issue transfer tickets upon request. Or, take a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 to Church Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 2 or 5 train. For service from Winthrop St, use the nearby Church Av station or the B44/B44 SBS bus. Or, take the Manhattan-bound 2/5 to Sterling St and transfer to a Flatbush Av-bound 2/5 train.

5 train:

• At all times until September 2019, Eastchester-Dyre Av bound trains will skip Gun Hill Rd due to station rehabilitation work. When finished, this will yield a better travel experience for customers, including the installation of a mezzanine to platform elevator, providing mobility impaired customers with better accessibility. Rehabilitation work will consist of the expansion and reconfiguration of the control house, a new booth, a larger unpaid area, new ADA signage and cameras throughout the station, new station entrance and retail configuration, reconstructed platforms, new ADA boarding areas and tactile platform warning strips, new ADA hand railings along the platform staircases and modifications to the platform canopies to accommodate the new elevator shafts. In order to accomplish the repair and reconstruction of the platforms within a safe environment, the northbound side of this station will be closed for approximately six months. For service to this station, take the 5 to Baychester Av and transfer to a Manhattan-bound 5. For service from this station, take the 5 to Pelham Pkwy and transfer to an Eastchester-Dyre Av bound 5.

6 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, uptown trains run express from 3 Av-138 St to Hunts Point Av due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a downtown 6 train to complete your trip. Transfer at Hunts Point Av or 3 Av-138 St.
• From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 30 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, trains will run in two sections due to track maintenance: between Pelham Bay Park and 125 St, and between 125 St and Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall. To continue your trip, transfer at 125 St.

7 train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Mets-Willets Point and Flushing-Main St due to track replacement. 7 trains will run between 34 St-Hudson Yards and Mets-Willets Point. Free shuttle buses will run between Mets-Willets Point and Flushing-Main St. Continue your trip via transfer at Mets-Willets Point.

A train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, Queens-bound trains will run express from Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts to Euclid Av due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at Euclid Av, Broadway Junction, Utica Av, Nostrand Av, or Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.

C train:

• From 9:45 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, and from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 30 and Mar. 31, Euclid Av-bound trains will run express from Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts to Euclid Av due to track maintenance. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at Euclid Av, Broadway Junction, Utica Av, Nostrand Av, or Hoyt-Schermerhorn Sts.

E train:

• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, Jamaica Center-bound trains will skip 75 Av and Briarwood due to signal modernization. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E or F train to complete your trip. Transfer at Jamaica-Van Wyck E, Union Tpke, or 71 Av.
• From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, Jamaica Center-bound trains will run express from Queens Plaza to 71 Av due to signal modernization. As an alternative, use a World Trade Center-bound E local to complete your trip. Transfer at 71 Av, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza.

F train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, Jamaica Center-bound trains will be rerouted via the A line from Jay St-MetroTech to W 4 St, then via the E line to Roosevelt Av. As an alternative, use A/C/E stations on 8 Av, D/Q, or a Brooklyn-bound F to complete your trip. Transfer at Jay St-MetroTech A/C/F, W 4 St A/C/E/F, Times Sq-42 St/Port Authority A/C/E/F/Q, 7 Av D/E/F, or Roosevelt Av E/F.
• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, F trains will run between Jamaica-179 St and Church Av due to track maintenance near Ditmas Av. Free shuttle buses will replace trains between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av, making all F station stops between Church Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. Transfer between trains and buses at Church Av. For direct service between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and downtown Brooklyn/Manhattan, take the D/N or Q.

G train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 1, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq due to track maintenance near Greenpoint Avenue and Nassau Avenue, and elevator work at Greenpoint Av. G trains will run between Church Av and Bedford-Nostrand Avs. Free shuttle buses will make all G line statin stops between Bedford-Nostrand Avs and Court Sq, and connect with the E/F at 21 St-Queensbridge. Transfer between G trains and buses at Bedford-Nostrand Avs.
• At all times until April 1, Church Av-bound trains will skip Flushing Av due to station improvements. As an alternative, use a Court Sq-bound G train to complete your trip. Transfer at Myrtle-Willoughby Avs or Broadway.

J train:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, free shuttle buses and/or 4/6 trains will replace J trains between Hewes St and Broad St due to track maintenance. J trains will run between Hewes St and Broad St. Shuttle buses will make all station stops at Hewes St, Marcy Av, Essex St, and Broadway-Lafayette/Bleecker St 6. Between Bowery and Chambers St, take the 6 to/from nearby stations via transfer between buses and trains at Bleeker St. For Fulton St and Broad St, take the 4 to/from nearby stations via transfer between 4 and 6 at Chambers St-Brooklyn Bridge. For service to/from Manhattan, use A/C or L via transfer at Broadway Junction.
• At all times until summer 2019, trains skip 111 St in both directions due station rehabilitation work. As an alternative, use nearby stations at 104 St or 121 St to complete your trip. Take the Q56 bus to/from the 104 St and 121 St J/Z stations; free transfer with MetroCard. Additional free transfers with MetroCard will be available between Q37, Q56 and the subway at 104 St, 121 St, or Woodhaven Blvd stations. L train:

• From 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Mar. 30 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 31, free shuttle buses will replace trains between Canarsie-Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction. L trains will run between 8 Av and Broadway Junction. Shuttle buses will run along two routes: express, running non-stop between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Pkwy, and local between Broadway Junction and Rockaway Pkwy, making all L line station stops. Transfer between trains and buses at Broadway Junction.

M train:

• From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, free buses and E/F/R will replace M trains between Myrtle Av and 71 Av due to track maintenance. M service will run between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the J. Free shuttle buses will run between Hewes St and Broadway-Lafayette, stopping at Marcy Av and Delancey-Essex Sts. For service to/from Manhattan, use the L via transfer at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs. For Queens Blvd, take the E/F or R.
• From 6:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 30, and from 8:15 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 31, free shuttle buses and J trains replace M trains between Myrtle Av and Delancey-Essex Sts due to track maintenance. M service will run between Metropolitan Av and Myrtle Av. For service between Myrtle Av and Hewes St, take the J. Free shuttle buses will run between Hewes St and Essex St. For service to/from Manhattan, use the L via transfer at Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs.

N train:

• At all times until December 2019, trains will skip Astoria Blvd in both directions due to station renewal work to add four new elevators and other accessibility features, as well as demolish and rebuild the station mezzanine with more vertical clearance to over-height vehicles traveling below the station structure. When this project is completed in late 2020, the Astoria Blvd station will have two street-to-mezzanine elevators, two mezzanine-to-platform elevators, a new station mezzanine, repaired or replaced structural columns and foundations, repaired concrete platform surfaces, new street and platform stairs, new platform stair enclosures, and new platform canopies and mezzanine overpass walkway canopies. Lights, signs and gates will also be replaced. The new station structure will be reinforced to support the weight of the new elevators and facilities. • As an alternative, use nearby stations use nearby stations at 30 Av or Ditmars Blvd. Take N/W to Queensboro Plaza, then 7 to 74 St-Roosevelt Av, or take the EFMR to 74 St-Roosevelt Av. As a reminder, R trains operate days/evenings only, and M/W trains do not run overnight or on the weekend. M60 SBS customers are advised to use the LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS instead. The LaGuardia Link Q70 SBS serves the 74 St-Roosevelt Av station.
• At all times until spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on the Sea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.
• At all times until July 2019, trains run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work. N trains stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.

N/Q trains:

• From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29 to 5 a.m. Monday, Apr. 1, uptown trains skip 49 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, use a downtown N/Q local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 57 St-7 Av or Times Square-42 St.

R train:

• From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 30 and Mar. 31, 71 Av-bound R trains will run express from Queens Plaza to 71 Av due to signal modernization. As an alternative, use a Manhattan-bound E local or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 71 Av, Roosevelt Av, or Queens Plaza.
• From 9:45 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, and from 6 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Mar. 30 and Mar. 31, uptown trains skip 49 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, use a downtown N or R train to complete your trip. Transfer at 57-7 Av or Times Square-42 St.

W train:

• Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Mar. 29, service will end early due to station improvements. As a reminder, W trains do not run on weekends.
