NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Nov. 10-11
Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, A, B, C, D, E, F, J, L, M, N, R and Q trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Nov. 9, through early Monday morning, Nov. 12— in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.
Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:
- At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown 1.
1/2 trains:

- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov 12, uptown 1/2 trains skip 50 St, 59 St, and 66 St due to track replacement near Times Square-42 St. As an alternative, use a downtown 1 or 2 local to complete your trip. Transfer at 72 St or Times Square-42 St.
3 train:
- At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St.
4 train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov 12, 4 trains will not run between New Lots Av and Bowling Green in either direction due to station improvements at Borough Hall. 4 trains will run between Woodlawn and Bowling Green. 3 trains will operate to/from New Lots Av all weekend. For service between Manhattan and Brooklyn, take the 2 or 3 via transfer at Fulton St.
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, downtown 4 trains skip 176 St, Mt Eden, 170 St, 167 St, and 161 St due to track replacement. As an alternative, use an uptown 4 to complete your trip. Transfer at 149 St-Grand Concourse of Burnside Av.
- From 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, and from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 4 trains run every 16 minutes between 125 St and Woodlawn due to track replacement. The last stop for some trains headed towards Woodlawn is 125 St. Transfer at 125 St to continue your trip.
5 train:
- From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10 and from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, 5 trains run every 20 minutes between Eastchester-Dyre Av and Bowling Green. Beginning 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, 5 service will end early between E 180 St and Bowling Green. As an alternative, take the 2 or 4.
4/6 trains:
- At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station. Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, uptown trains run express from Grand Central-42 St to 125 St due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a downtown 4 local or 6 to complete your trip. Transfer at 125 St, 86 St, 59 St, or Grand central-42 St.
A/C trains:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12 downtown trains run express from 168 St to 59 St-Columbus Circle due to station maintenance at 103 St, 145 St and 163 St. As an alternative, use an uptown A local or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 59 St-Columbus Circle, 125 St, 145 St, or 168 St. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, trains skip 103 St in both directions due to station maintenance. For uptown service, use the nearby 96 St or 110 St stations. For downtown service, take the 1 at the nearby 103 St station; transfer to the A or C at 59 St-Columbus Circle. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
B train:
- From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, B service will end early due to track replacement between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and 145 St. As an alternative, take the C/D and/or Q. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.
B/D trains:
- At all times until Jan. 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium 4/B/D. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. - At all times until December 2018, B and D trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B or D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av or 170 St stations for a transfer to the bus.
D train:
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, downtown trains skip 170 St, 161 St-Yankee Stadium and 155 St due to track replacement between 161 St-Yankee Stadium and 145 St. As an alternative, use an uptown D train to complete your trip. Transfer at 145 St or Tremont Av. As a reminder, the 167 St and 174-175 Sts B/D stations are closed for renovations.
E train:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, Manhattan-bound trains skip Briarwood and 75 Av due to due to the ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization project. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F/R to complete your trip. Transfer at 71 Av, Union Tpke, or Jamaica-Van Wyck E. R service is extended to 179 St, days and evenings this weekend.
E/R trains:
- From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, Manhattan-bound trains run express from Forest Hills-71 Av to Queens Plaza due to the ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization project. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound E local or Jamaica-bound R to complete your trip. Transfer at Queens Plaza, Roosevelt Av, or 71 Av. As a reminder, R service is extended to 179 St, days and evenings this weekend.
F train:
- At all times until December 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av, 5 Av/59 St, 7 Av, 5 Av/53 St or 47-50 Sts. Local buses are also available along Fifth Avenue, Sixth Avenue and 57th Street. - From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, Manhattan-bound trains skip Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood and 75 Av due to due to the ongoing Queens Boulevard signal modernization project. As an alternative, use a Jamaica Center-bound E or Jamaica-bound F/R to complete your trip. Transfer at 71 Av, Union Tpke, or Parsons Blvd F/R. As a reminder, R service is extended to 179 St, days and evenings this weekend.
F/M trains:
- At all times until December 2018, trains will skip 23 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. The 23 St station opened around the time of World War II, in December 1940. Crews are making extensive repairs to fix structural defects and deterioration, and include functional station improvements, leading to an enhanced customer experience for approximately 31,000 daily riders who use the station. For alternate service, use the nearby 34 St-Herald Sq or 14 St stations along Sixth Avenue. Or, use the nearby 23 St R/W station on Broadway. J train:
- At all times until Fall 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound trains skip 104 St and 121 St due to station rehabilitation work. Use a Manhattan-bound J train to complete your trip. Transfer at Sutphin Blvd, 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd.
- From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, free shuttle buses and E trains replace J trains between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation at 104 St and 121 St. J service will operate between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E, and/or Crescent St J. As a reminder, the Jamaica Center-bound platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations.
L train:
- From approximately 10:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, L service is suspended in both directions between 8 Av and Broadway Junction due to extensive track maintenance at Wilson Av, and signal improvements and station work at Bedford Av.
M train:
- From 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, M trains will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and replaces Q service between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St due to track maintenance on the L/Q lines.
N train:
- At all times until Spring 2019, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av, due to station rehabilitation work on theSea Beach Line. For service to these stations, use a Manhattan-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Bay Pkwy or 8 Av. For New Utrecht Av-62 St, take the D instead. Transfer between N and D trains at 36 St.
- At all times until July 2019, trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
- At all times until February 2019, trains will skip Broadway and 39 Avin both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30 Av, 36 Av, or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus. For a graphical guide to these alternate travel directions, click here.
- From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound trains skip 30 Av and 36 Av and due to station enhancements at 39 Av and Broadway. As an alternative, use an Astoria-bound N train to complete your trip. Transfer at Queensboro Plaza or Astoria Blvd. As a reminder, trains skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions until February 2019 due to station renovations.
- From 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, free shuttle buses replace N trains between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 59 St due to station rehabilitation work at Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Av, 18 Av, and 20 Av. N trains will run via the D line in both directions between 36 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. N trains will run between Astoria/Ditmars Blvd and 36 St, and via the D to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For 45 St, 53 St, and 59 St, take the N via transfer at 36 St. Free shuttle buses will make all N line station stops between 59 St and Coney Island-Stillwell Av. For stations between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and 59 St, transfer to/from free shuttle buses at Coney Island-Stillwell Av D/N, New Utrecht Av, D/N, or 59 St R.
- From 11 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9 to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, trains are rerouted via the R (Lower Manhattan) in both directions between Atlantic Av- Barclays Ctr and Canal St. N trains will stop at DeKalb Av, Jay St-MetroTech, Court St, Whitehall St, Rector St, Cortlandt St, and City Hall.
R train:
- From 5:30 a.m. to 12 midnight, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 10 and Nov. 11, R service runs to/from the 179 St F station. Manhattan-bound R trains skip Sutphin Blvd, Briarwood, and 75 Av F stations.
Q train:
- From 10:45 p.m. Friday, Nov 9, to 5 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, free shuttle buses and D/M/N/R trains replace Q trains between Prospect Park and 96 St due to track maintenance near 7 Av. Q trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Prospect Park. M trains will run to/from the 96 St station all weekend. Free shuttle buses will make all Q line station stops between Prospect Park and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Transfer between Q trains and free shuttle buses at Prospect Park, and/or between buses and D/N/R trains at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Transfer between D/N/R trains and M trains at 34 St-Herald Sq. Consider using D/F/N trains for service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av.
