NYC Weekend Subway Service Changes Oct. 6-7

Heads up: The 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, A, B, C, D, F, J, L, M, N, Q, and S trains won't be running normally this weekend.

NEW YORK, NY — Here's how the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will screw up your plans this weekend — from late Friday night, Oct. 6, through early Monday morning, Oct. 8 — in the name of "upgrading and maintaining our tracks, stations and signal systems in order to continue to provide our customers with safe and reliable service.

Getting around on the subway this weekend is going to be tough, as a staggering 18 train lines will be running with modified service. (For more New York City news delivered straight to your inbox sign up for Patch's free newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

1 train:

  • At all times until winter 2018-19, downtown trains skip 238 St due to station improvements. As an alternative, take the Bx9 to 231 St, or take an uptown train to 242 St and transfer to a downtown train.

2 train:

  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, uptown trains run express from 3 Av-149 St to E 180 St due to track replacement. As an alternative, use a downtown train to complete your trip. Transfer at E 180 St or 149 St-Grand Concourse.

3 train:

  • At all times until November 2018, 3 trains will skip 145 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. During this closure, 3 trains will run between New Lots Av and 96 St, and via the 1 to 137 St, the last stop. Free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 148 St and 135 St. Transfer between 2/3 trains at 96 St and between 2 trains at 135 St.

4/6 trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, 4/6 trains will skip 28 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby 6 stations along Park Av South at 33 St or 23 St. Or, use the nearby 28 St R/W station. Local buses are also available along Lexington Av and Madison Av.

5 train:

  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2 trains will provide service between 149 St-Grand Concourse and E180 St due to track replacement. 5 trains will run in two sections between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse, and between E 180 St and Eastchester-Dyre Av all weekend. 2 trains will run between Flatbush Av-Brooklyn College and Walefield-241 St. Transfer between 2/5 trains at 149 St-Grand Concourse and /or E 180 St.
  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, trains run every 20 minutes between Bowling Green and 149 St-Grand Concourse due to track replacement.
  • From 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, trains skip 138 St-Grand Concourse due to track replacement. As an alternative, take the 4 instead. Transfer at 125 St to a Bronx-bound 4 train.

7 train:

  • From 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, to 4:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, free shuttle buses, additional subway and bus services, special LIRR service and customer service personnel will be deployed while Communications Based Train Control signal modernization work is done along the Flushing Line. This work is absolutely essential to delivering more reliable and frequent service on the line, benefiting half a million daily riders for years to come when completed. A train:

  • From 12:01 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Lefferts Blvd shuttle service runs between Lefferts Blvd and Rockaway Blvd, the last stop due to track maintenance at Euclid Av. To continue your trip, transfer at Rockaway Blvd.
  • From 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Queens-bound trains run local from Broadway Junction to Euclid Av due to track maintenance between Broadway Junction and Euclid Av.

A/C trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, uptown trains will run express from 59 St-Columbus Circle to 125 St due to station enhancements at 86 St. As an alternative, use a downtown A local, or C to complete your trip. Transfer at 125 St or 59 St-Columbus Circle. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.
  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, trains skip 103 St in both directions due to station improvements. For downtown service, use the nearby 96 St or 110 St stations. For uptown service, take the M10 bus along Central Park West. As a reminder, C trains do not run overnight.

B train:

  • From 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, B service will end early due to station enhancements at 167 St, 174-175, and 86 St. As an alternative, take the C/D and/or Q. As a reminder, B service does not run on weekends.

B/C trains:

  • At all times until late Oct. 2018, B/C trains will skip 72 St and 86 St in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project.
    • For service to/from 72 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 59 St-Columbus Circle. Or take the 123 at, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 59 St with MetroCard.
    • For service to/from 86 St, use nearby B/C stations at 81 St-Museum of Natural History and 96 St. Or take the 1 at 86 St, along Broadway. Use an M10 bus along Frederick Douglass Blvd and transfer to the B/C (A overnight) at 81 St or 96 St with MetroCard.

B/D trains:

  • At all times until December 2018, B and D trains will skip 174-175 Sts in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby Tremont Av or 170 St B/D stations. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to B or D trains at Tremont Av or 170 St with a MetroCard. For either station, if you need to transfer to another bus, ask the driver for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. On your return trip, ask the station agent at the Tremont Av or 170 St stations for a transfer to the bus.
  • At all times until Jan. 2019, B/D trains will skip 167 St in both directions MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. As an alternative, customers are advised to use the nearby stations at 170 St B/D, 167 St 4, or 161 St-Yankee Stadium 4/B/D. Use the Bx1 or Bx2 along Grand Concourse and transfer to the subway at 170 St or 161 St-Yankee Stadium with a MetroCard. Use the Bx35 along E 167 St and transfer to the 4 at 167 St station with a MetroCard. If you need to transfer to another bus, ask the bus operator for a MetroCard Bus Transfer which can be used on your next local bus ride within two hours. D train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, uptown trains skip 155 St, 161 St, 170 St, and 182-183 Sts due to station enhancements due at 167 St and 174-175 Sts. As an alternative, use a downtown train to complete your trip. Transfer at Fordham Rd, Tremont Av or 145 St. As a reminder, the 167 St and 174-175 Sts stations are closed for renovations.

F train:

  • At all times until Dec. 2018, F trains will skip 57 St in both directions due to due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use nearby stations at 57 St-7 Av N/Q/R/W, 5 Av/59 St N/R/W, 7 Av B/D/E, 5 Av/53 St E/M, or 47-50 Sts B/D/F/M.   • From 11:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Jamaica-bound trains are rerouted via the E line after 47-50 St to Roosevelt Av due to signal modernization along the Queens Blvd Line. For service to Lexington Av/63 St, transfer to the M at 47-50 Sts. For service from Lexington Av/63 St, take the downtown F/M to 47-50 Sts and transfer to a Jamaica-bound F. For service to/from Roosevelt Island and 21 St-Queensbridge, take a Coney Island-Stillwell Av bound F via transfer at Roosevelt Av or 47-50 Sts.

J train:

  • At all times until fall 2018, Jamaica Center Parsons/Archer-bound trains skip 104 St and 121 St due to station rehabilitation work. Use a Manhattan-bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at Sutphin Blvd, 111 St or Woodhaven Blvd.
  • From 3:45 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, to 10 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, free shuttle buses and E trains replace J trains between Crescent St and Jamaica Center due to station rehabilitation at 104 St and 121 St. J service will operate between Broad St and Crescent St. Free shuttle buses will make all station stops between Crescent St and 121 St, and connect with the E at Jamaica-Van Wyck. Transfer between trains and free shuttle buses at Jamaica-Van Wyck E, and/or Crescent St J. As a reminder, the Jamaica Center-bound platforms at 104 St and 121 St are closed for renovations.

L train:

  • This weekend, L trains will not run between 8 Av and Broadway Junction. L trains will run between Rockaway Pkwy and Broadway Junction. M14 and free shuttle buses will provide alternate service between 8 Av and Broadway Junction. Free shuttle buses will operate along the following three routes: between Marcy Av J/M and Lorimer St; between Lorimer St and Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs; between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avs and Broadway Junction. Transfer between trains and buses at Myrtle Wyckoff Avs M, Broadway Junction A/C/J/L, or Marcy Av J/M. Additional nearby subway and local bus service is also provided to accommodate customers. M trains will provide additional service from 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5 to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, and will operate between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the Q line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

M train:

  • From 11:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, M trains will provide alternative service due to track maintenance on the L/Q lines, and will run between Metropolitan Av and 47-50 Sts, and via the Q line between Lexington Av/63 St and 96 St.

N train:

  • At all times until fall 2018, Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N trains skip Fort Hamilton Pkwy, New Utrecht Ave., 18th Av., 20th Ave., Kings Hwy, Avenue U and 86th St. due to station rehabilitation work at nine stations on the Sea Beach Line.
    • For service from these stations, take a Manhattan-bound N to Bay Pkwy or 8th Ave. and transfer to a Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N.
    • For New Utrecht Ave.-62 St., take the D. Transfer between N and D trains at 36th St. or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave.
    • For service to these stations, take the Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. bound N to Bay Pkwy or Coney Island-Stillwell Ave. and transfer to a Manhattan-bound N
  • At all times until July 2019, N trains will run local in both directions between 59 St and 36 St in Brooklyn due to structural rehabilitation work to repair and replace steel columns, lighting, ventilators, and deteriorated concrete, and perform water mitigation work to address water seepage in the express tunnel between the 59 St and 36 St stations. N trains will stop at 53 St and 45 St in both directions.
  • At all times until February 2019, N trains will skip Broadway and 39th Ave. in both directions due to MTA's Enhanced Station Initiative project. For alternate service during this closure, use the nearby open Astoria line stations at 30th Ave., 36th Ave., or Queensboro Plaza via the Q102 bus.

N/W trains:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, Astoria-bound trains skip 36 Av and 30 Av due to station enhancements at 39 Av, Broadway and Ditmars Blvd. Use a Coney Island-bound train to complete your trip. Transfer at Astoria Blvd or Queensboro Plaza. As a reminder, trains skip Broadway and 39 Av in both directions until February 2019 due to station renovations.

Q train:

  • From 9:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, to 5 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, free shuttle buses and D/M/N/R trains replace Q trains between Prospect Park and 96 St due to track maintenance between Prospect Park and DeKalb Av. Q trains will run between Coney Island-Stillwell Av and Prospect Park. M trains will run between to/from the 96 St Q station all weekend. Free shuttle buses will make all Q line station stops between Prospect Park and Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Transfer between Q trains and free shuttle buses at Prospect Park, and/or between buses and D/N/R trains at Atlantic Av-Barclays Ctr. Transfer between D/N/R trains and M trains at 34 St-Herald Sq. Consider using F/D/N trains for service to/from Coney Island-Stillwell Av.

W train:

  • From 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, special weekend service will run between Whitehall St and Ditmars Blvd to provide additional service due to signal modernization on the Flushing Line. See this press release for details.
