NYC Weekend Travel Guide: How To Get Around The City July 30-31
Skipped stops, rerouted trains, street closures: here's how to make your weekend excursions less of a travel nightmare.

NEW YORK CITY — Whether staying in the city or hopping off to the beach — rerouted subways, street closures and train delays are ready to disrupt New Yorkers weekend travel plans.

Getting Out Of Town? Here's Metro-North and LIRR Changes:
To City Zone:

Eastbound trains towards Jamaica skip Woodside from Jul 29 - Aug 1, Friday 10 p.m. to Monday 5 a.m.
Eastbound Port Washington Branch trains will continue to stop at Woodside. The subway will allow eastbound riders at Woodside to enter at no cost. Present your LIRR ticket to the station booth agent for access to the subway system.
To Oyster Bay:
No trains between Jamaica and East Williston on Jul 8, Jul 29, and Aug 5, beginning at 10 p.m.
Shuttle buses connect East Williston and Mineola, where train service is available to Jamaica and Penn Station.
Please allow up to 30 minutes of additional travel time or consider using the Port Washington or Hempstead Branches instead.
To Port Jefferson:
At Mineola, you must be in the first eight cars to exit eastbound trains and the last eight cars to exit westbound trains until late 2022.
The temporary platforms at the west end of the station are now closed and the eastern eight cars of both platforms have reopened, as renovation work continues as part of the LIRR Expansion Project.
The ticket vending machines on the south side of the station are now located east of 3rd Ave.
You must be in the first six cars to exit at Westbury
The temporary platforms at the east end of the station are now closed and the western six cars of both platforms have reopened, as renovation work continues as part of the LIRR Expansion Project.
The pedestrian underpass has also reopened, but the station building remains closed until later this year.
To Port Washington:
All trains stop at Mets-Willets Point.
To Ronkonkoma:
At Mineola, you must be in the first eight cars to exit eastbound trains and the last eight cars to exit westbound trains

How Do I Get To the Beach?
The MTA has put together a guide of its ticket packages for beach excursions. Here's what to know:
Long Beach
The package includes discounted train tickets to/from Long Beach station, admission to the beach and a City of Long Beach trolley voucher. The package is valid daily through September 5, 2022.
Fire Island Beaches
- The Robert Moses package includes discounted train tickets to/from Babylon station and Suffolk County Transit bus tickets to/from the beach. The package is valid through September 5, 2022.
- The Cherry Grove, Fire Island Pines and Sailor’s Haven packages include discounted train tickets to/from Sayville station, round trip taxi vouchers, and round trip Sayville Ferry vouchers. The packages are valid through September 5, 2022.
- The Ocean Beach, Ocean Bay Park and Kismet/Fire Island Lighthouse packages include discounted train tickets to/from Bay Shore station, round trip taxi vouchers, round trip Fire Island Ferries ferry vouchers and admission to the Lighthouse. The package is valid through September 5, 2022.
- The Davis Park package includes discounted train tickets to/from Patchogue station, round trip taxi vouchers, and round trip Davis Park Ferry vouchers. The package is valid through September 5, 2022.
- The Watch Hill package includes discounted train tickets to/from Patchogue station, and round trip Davis Park Ferry ferry vouchers. Please note: the ferry to Watch Hill is located a short walk from the west end of Patchogue station at 160 West Avenue. No taxi vouchers are included. The package is valid through September 5, 2022.
Jones Beach
The Jones Beach package includes discounted rail to and from Freeport station and bus transportation (NICE Bus) to the East or West Bathhouses or the Central Mall at Jones Beach. The package is valid through September 5, 2022.

Manhattan:
Times Square West Spectacular
- Streets Closed: Eighth Avenue between 42nd and 54th streets
- When: Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10 a.m.
3rd Avenue Cooper Square Festival
- Streets Closed: Third Avenue between Sixth and 14th streets
- When: Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 10 a.m.
Lexington Avenue Summer Fest
- Streets Closed: Lexington Avenue between 42nd Street and 57th Street
- When: Sunday, July 31, 2022 at 10 a.m.
The Bronx:
La Gran Parada Dominicana De El Bronx
- Streets Closed:
- Formation: Grand Concourse between 181st Street and 176th Street
- Route: Grand Concourse between 176th Street and 167th Street
- Dispersal: 167th Street between Grand Concourse and Jerome Avenue
- When: Sunday, July 31, 2022
Brooklyn:
5th Avenue Merchants Fun on 5th
- Streets Closed: Fifth Avenue between 85th and 72nd streets
- When: Friday July 29, 2022, 5 p.m.
Weekend Subway Changes
The MTA reports there will be changes on a whopping 20 subway lines this weekend that include reduced service, localized express trains and the dreaded shuttle bus replacement.
