NEW YORK CITY — Nearly 6 inches of rain fell over parts of New York City in an absolute soaker of a weekend that caused a flood of headaches for city dwellers, forecasters and officials said.

A Bronx apartment building's wall partially collapsed and flooded-out motorists had to be rescued from their cars amid the weather-related chaos, according to a torrent of weekend tweets.

As New Yorkers battled the rain with umbrellas and galoshes, it seems even the city's resilient pigeons decided to surrender.

"If you’re trying to understand how wet New York City is at the moment, its 'drenched pigeon takes shelter in a doorway' wet," one New Yorkers tweeted with a photograph of an unhappy-looking bird.

Rainfall varied across the city, with Washington Heights getting the most at 5.95 inches, according to the National Weather Service.

Central Park saw 4.7 inches, while its Brooklyn counterpart Prospect Park had 4.49 inches of recorded rainfall, the totals show.

Flood advisories went up Sunday as the ceaseless rain fell and threatened low-lying communities.

By the evening, the rain caused a wall collapse at a Bronx apartment building along Valentine Avenue, Mayor Eric Adams tweeted.

"Thankfully no one was injured and our team at was quick to connect families who needed services with the @RedCross," he wrote.

Videos posted by New Yorkers showed flooding in Brooklyn and along highways in Queens. FDNY firefighters hauled motorists out of flooded cars on the Cross Island Expressway, according to a video.

All in all, New Yorkers weren't happy.

"I live in New York City, and I don't want to hear anyone in the Tri-state area complaining about their lawns not getting enough rain after this weekend," one fed-up New Yorker tweeted.

Unfortunately for New Yorkers who are still drying their shoes and socks, there could be more rain on the way.
