Celebrating July 4 Is Better In NYC Than Anywhere Else: Ranking

Nowhere is better for celebrating Independence Day than the nation's first capital.

NEW YORK, NY — Nowhere beats the nation's first capital when it comes to cheering the stars and stripes, according to this new ranking. New York City is at the top of WalletHub's nationwide list of the best cities to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The personal finance website ranked 100 U.S. cities based on July 4 celebrations, attractions, activities, affordability, safety, accessibility and holiday weather to determine the best place to spend Independence Day.

The Big Apple came out on top overall, ranking first in the nation for attractions and activities, second for safety and accessibility and fifth for July 4 celebrations.

The city has more Independence Day festivals and performances than any other in the nation, WalletHub found. It's also No. 1 in terms of walkability, the legality of fireworks and the prevalence of affordable, quality restaurants.

Not everything in the five boroughs is affordable, though — New York has the second-most expensive average beer and wine prices in the nation, WalletHub says. There's also no guarantee the weather will be good on July 4, as the city ranks 26th in that category.

New Yorkers heading out of town for the holiday might consider Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver or Seattle, which round out the top five on WalletHub's list. But travelers may want to avoid the lowest-ranking city: San Bernardino, California.
