NEW YORK — The Big Apple's brew is could be little stronger. Only one American metropolis is a better haven for coffee lovers than New York City, according to a new WalletHub ranking.

The five boroughs took the No. 2 spot on the personal finance list of the nation's "best coffee cities" published Tuesday. WalletHub ranked the 100 largest U.S. cities based on 14 measures of their friendliness to coffee drinkers, from the average price of a cappuccino to the number of doughnut shops per capita.

Seattle — the birthplace of Starbucks — beat out the city that never sleeps for the No. 1 spot on the list. The Emerald City has the nation's second-most coffee and tea manufacturers per capita and the fourth-most coffee shops, coffee houses and cafés per capita, WalletHub says.

New York has a larger abundance of gathering places for coffee lovers — it has the most coffee shops per capita and ties for the most doughnut shops per capita, the report says. But it's also among the most exepensive cities to grab a cup of joe with the fifth-highest average cappuccino price on the list, according to WalletHub.

New Yorkers who need a caffeine fix could head to the West Coast, which is home to four of the top five cities on WalletHub's list. But they should stay away from Toledo, Ohio, which ranked dead last.
