NEW YORK CITY — A man was struck and killed by a train in a Lower Manhattan subway station during Friday morning's rush hour, police said.

Medics pronounced the man, who appeared to be in his 30s, dead at 7:47 a.m., according to the NYPD.

Details are still scant, but police said the man was on the tracks near Houston Street station before a train struck him, police said.

"Our crews discovered that southbound 1 train struck a person who was on the tracks near Houston St," the MTA tweeted.

The incident caused extensive delays starting about 7:35 a.m. for 1/2/3 trains, which were held in Lower Manhattan stations, MTA officials said.

The trains were back to regular service, albeit with delays, according to an 8:47 a.m. post by the MTA.
