President Trump Plans To Meet With NYC Mayor-Elect Zohran Mamdani

Mamdani said on Monday said his team has reached out to the White House.

NEW YORK CITY — President Donald Trump has disclosed he wants to meet with New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

Trump made the comments on Sunday during a press conference with reporters.

“The mayor of New York, I will say, would like to meet with us, and we’ll work something out. But he would like to come to Washington,” he said. "We want to see everything work out well for New York."

Despite Trump calling Mamdani a communist and endorsing Andrew Cuomo in the general election, the mayor-elect has said he would be open to meeting with the president about making the city more affordable.

Mamdani reaffirmed his stance on Monday when asked by reporters, saying he would speak with "anyone about affordability."

He added that his team has reached to the White House.

"I will go to make the case to the President," he said.

Mamdani will take office on Jan. 1, 2026 and is in the midst of building out his staff. Last week, he appointed Dean Fuleihan as his first deputy mayor and Elle Bisgaard-Church as chief of staff.

Fuleihan previously served as former Mayor Bill de Blasio's first deputy mayor and has been a part of Mamdani's team since he won the primary.

Bisgaard-Church has served as Mamdani's campaign adviser and chief and staff. She will hold the same title when he becomes mayor in January.

Mamdani has also announced an all-woman transition team as he prepares to take office.
