Presidents' Day 2019: NYC Transit Changes
Service on city subways and buses as well as commuter lines such as the Metro-North and LIRR will run on an alternate schedule Monday.

NEW YORK, NY — Many New Yorkers will have off from work on Monday, Feb. 18 in celebration of Presidents' Day. The holiday, celebrated the third Monday of every February, honors the birthday of the United States' first president George Washington.
As with any public holiday, the Metropolitan Transit Authority will be switching up its regular service schedule on city buses and subways as well as regional lines such as the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad.

Subways and buses:
New York City subways will run on a weekend schedule on Monday, which often means service changes on a number of lines and less frequent trains. Check out Patch for this weekend's subway service advisory.

Buses will run on a limited schedule on Monday with minor changes to bus arrival times. Local buses in Staten Island will see reduced service.
Long Island Rail Road:
Long Island Rail Road will also adopt a weekend schedule on Monday. The commuter rail system will add four extra trains to the Ronkonkoma Branch line that will depart Ronkonkoma at 7:10 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. and from Penn Station at 5:37 p.m. and 6:37 p.m.
Fares will be off peak for the holiday.
Metro-North Railroad:
The Metro-North Railroad will adopt a typical Saturday schedule on Presidents' Day, according to the MTA.
Additional service changes include:
- The Hudson Rail Link, Newburgh-Beacon Ferry and Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry will not operate;
- The north end exits at Grand Central to 46th, 47th, and 48th Streets will be closed;
- Two extra eastbound trains will depart from Port Jervis, at 6:22 a.m. and 4:09 p.m. making all stops to Suffern and then running express to Secaucus Junction and Hoboken.;
- One extra westbound train will depart Hoboken at 5:19 p.m., stop at Secaucuse Junction and then make all stops between Suffern and Port Jervis.
Staten Island Railway:
State Island Railway will operate on a typical Sunday schedule for the holiday.
