Ruff Break: NYC Halloween Dog Parade, Hounded By Permit Woes, Nixed
Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade goers have a bone to pick.
NEW YORK CITY — Costume-loving New York City dog owners are about to have a terrier-able Halloween.
The treasured Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade this year has been canceled, organizers said.
"PARADE HAS BEEN CANCELLED FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE," they howled on the parade's site.

The all-caps whimper came after organizers spent weeks fruitlessly trying to dig out permits from New York City's public bureaucracy, Gothamist first reported.
Efforts to bring the parade back to the East Village park for the 33th year were ultimately complicated by construction, organizers said.

"Despite our best efforts to keep the parade going, with ongoing building work in both our local parks there was just no way to hold the parade this year," they posted on Instagram.
Sadly, this means New Yorkers — and, indeed, the world — will have to go without the sight of pups parading around dressed as bodega cats, hot dogs, pilots, horror film icon Pinhead and more.
