NEW YORK CITY — Rush-hour subway delays stymied straphangers' commutes across New York City as the city neared the end of a tumultuous week.

Seven subway lines saw slowdowns Thursday about 9 a.m., according to MTA alerts.

F trains headed north were delayed as medics helped someone in need of medical help at Roosevelt Island, an MTA post states.

Trains along the 1, 2 and 3 lines slowed in both directions, a post states. The delay had a twofold cause: a train's brakes were activated near Rector Street and a straphanger needed medical help at Canal Street, officials said.

R trains bound for Bay Ridge and M trains headed for Metropolitan Avenue ran with delay after crews removed a train with a mechanical problem from service at Queens Plaza, a post states.

And, finally, J trains headed to Broad Street ran with delays because of a signal problem at Van Siclen Avenue, officials said.
