200 million eggs have been recalled in nine U.S. states.

NEW YORK, NY – More than 200 million eggs – including many in New York – have been recalled because they could be contaminated with salmonella, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

According to officials, 22 illnesses have been reported to date. The eggs were distributed from a farm in Hyde County, North Carolina and the FDA says the eggs reached Colorado, Florida, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Those infected can experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
