Suitcase Full Of Fentanyl, Heroin Found In $5M Bronx Drug Bust: Feds

Six people were arrested on a fire escape as they tried to escape authorities busting a Bronx packaging mill Aug. 4, prosecutors said.

NEW YORK CITY — A suitcase full of fentanyl and heroin was among $5 million worth of drugs seized during a dramatic bust of a packaging mill in a Bronx apartment, authorities said.

Six people scrambled up a fire escape in a mad dash away from cops and DEA agents who swarmed the Crotona Avenue apartment Aug. 4, prosecutors said.

But agents and officers were up on the roof, leaving the people trapped before their arrest on a slew of drug-related charges, said Bridget Brennan, the city's special narcotics prosecutor.

“The investigation and arrests announced today, resulting in the ultimate destruction of hundreds of thousands of glassines of lethal drugs, will undoubtedly prevent many deaths," she said in a statement.

The bust began with a wide-ranging drug probe centered around an apartment across the street from PS 57 Crescent and near the Bronx Zoo, prosecutors said.

After the fire escape chase, authorities searched the apartment and found more than 55 pounds of suspected drugs with an estimated street value of more than $5 million, prosecutors said.

The haul included a suitcase with roughly 300,000 glassine envelopes filled with heroin or fentanyl, 200,000 more drug-filled glassines and multiple stamps labeled "Yeezy," "DoorDash," "Netflix," among other names, that authorities suspect were put on the packages.

The people arrested all hail from The Bronx and face charges of criminal drug possession and criminally using drug paraphernalia. They are Randy Ledesma, 27, Jose Mora, 52, Alexis Rosario Sabrino, 29, Darwin Taveras Santos, 30, Miguel Then Serverino, 42, and Dayson Taveras, 23, prosecutors said.
