NEW YORK CITY — A heat wave will hit New York City as well as a risk for thunderstorms, according to the latest forecast.

The summer-like weather will be in the area beginning Thursday, with a forecasted high of 84 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. There's a possibility of thunderstorms and rain on Friday, but temperatures will still reach a high of 85 degrees.

High humidity from the possible rain will make it feel hotter Friday.

"Aside from the possibility of a shower or thunderstorm from the front late this week, areas that miss out on the rain could have a stretch of where it does not rain at all for seven to 10 days or more," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Dombek said, "The dryness will help temperatures surge during the day as much of the sun's energy won't be used up evaporating moisture from the ground."

Here's the complete National Weather Service forecast for New York City, as of Wednesday morning.
