These NYC Vegetarian Eateries Are Among Best In The US

NEW YORK — The Big Apple has earned its nickname. Seven New York City eateries have been ranked among the 50 best vegetarian restaurants in America.

The online reservation platform OpenTable compiled its list based on more than 12 million reviews of 30,000 restaurants across the country.

New York City was home to 10 spots that made the list of the nation's top-notch plant-based dining rooms. They include:

• Blossom, Upper West Side and Chelsea
• Candle 79, Upper East Side
• Delice & Sarrasin, Greenwich Village
• Dirt Candy, Lower East Side
• Divya's Kitchen, East Village
• Double Zero, East Village
• Modern Love, Midtown and Williamsburg
• Nix, Greenwich Village
• Tamarind, Tribeca
• The Little Beet Table, Kips Bay

OpenTable considered restaurants that got a minimum overall rating from a qualifying number of reviews from Aug. 1, 2018 to July 31 of this year. Eateries that met those criteria were then scored and sorted based on how many "tags" they had for being vegan or having vegetarian options, according to the site.

Diners across the nation have shown a heightened appetite for meatless meals, OpenTable says. The number of reviews on the site including the phrase "plant-based" have increased 200 percent since 2017, according to a news release.

"There’s no doubt that plant-based dining is a trend as we’re seeing increasing interest in vegetarian menu options from our diners," Caroline Potter, OpenTable's chief dining officer, said in a statement.
