Tropical Storm Could Affect NYC, Forecasters Say
As Hurricane Harvey's remnants lash Texas, experts are watching another storm.
NEW YORK CITY, NY – As the remnants of Hurricane Harvey continue to lash Texas with catastrophic rainfall, another storm is taking aim at the East Coast. It could become a tropical Storm Aug 28, according to the National Hurricane Center. It's predicted to skirt the coast by the Carolinas Tuesday before veering off to the northeast and out into open water.
Though the storm is expected to pass well south of New York City, the National Weather Service says there will likely be rain starting Aug. 29, with winds gusting near to 26 mph. Showers will continue into Wednesday, the service predicts.

The storm will also create some dangerous conditions on the region's beaches. The NWS says there's a high risk of rip currents Monday with surf of 4-5 feet. Dangerous rip currents will remain likely through Wednesday.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water that flow quickly away from shore. The NWS advises swimmers to pay attention to flags and posted signs and to swim only in areas with lifeguards.
