Trump Says NYC 'Rapidly Declining' Because Of De Blasio, Cuomo
The planned release of nearly 900 people from NYC jails led the president to suggest the mayor and governor are "killing our cities."

NEW YORK — His recent change in residency did not stop President Donald Trump from lashing out at Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo over statewide criminal-justice reforms Tuesday.
The Republican president and ex-New Yorker slammed the mayor and governor on Twitter over the planned release of hundreds of people from city jails in anticipation of new limits on cash bail.
"So sad to see what is happening in New York where Governor Cuomo & Mayor DeBlasio are letting out 900 Criminals, some hardened & bad, onto the sidewalks of our rapidly declining, because of them, city," Trump tweeted Tuesday morning.

The president was apparently referring to a reported state effort to free people from jails this year who will be eligible for release under sweeping bail reforms set to take effect in January.
Some 880 people awaiting trial in Big Apple jails could be freed starting in mid-December as judges begin to comply with the reforms before they officially take hold, according to The New York Post, which first reported on the initiative Sunday.

The new laws will stop judges from making New Yorkers pay to get out of jail while they await trial on misdemeanor or nonviolent felony charges.
Trump added that "Radical Left Dems are killing our cities" and noted that NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill is resigning. O'Neill is leaving for a private-sector job and did not attribute his departure to a particular policy change.
De Blasio shot back on Twitter by pointing to Trump's moving his official residence to Florida from Manhattan.
"New York City’s never been safer and not just because you finally left town," the mayor tweeted. "Our commissioner worked tirelessly to bring police and communities together. We’re safer than ever because we let safety and fairness walk hand in hand — and rejected the rhetoric of crooks like you."
